Question Low Oil light came on at high speeds.

I drove from Chicago to Detroit and back a couple of Saturdays ago. This was the first time that I drove my 8 in excess of 50 miles in a stretch. I was very impressed! I had a friend with me through the trip and none of us felt any discomfort after having been in the car for about 8 hours of the last 12 hour period. I noticed a couple of things with the car and wonder if you guys have any explanations.

1. On my way there I was averaging about 90 and I averaged 100 on the way back. During the trip back I decided to see if I could hit the fabled 148 speed max, but my car maxed out at 135. The road wasn't the smoothest and I calculated that I had about 400 pounds of extra weight in the car. Was it because of road conditions and the extra load that my car maxed out or is my governor set to a lower limit. I'm not complaining, coz I hardly hit this speed, but just curious.

2. Since I was trying to take the car above 135 I must have maintained the speed for about 30 seconds. Then I gave up and gradually slowed down to 110ish. However a couple of minutes later the "low oil" light came on. I took the next exit, and noticed that as soon as I had completely stopped the car, the light went off. I parked the car and checked oil levels and it seemed fine. I put some extra engine oil in it for good measure and then drove back. The low oil light hasn't come on since then.

So does anyone have a clue as to what happened? I know I might be flamed for driving that fast. I should add that when I hit 135 it was 10 pm on a Saturday night and the roads were very empty. I had hit a very straight section and could see miles down the road there was nobody around. But it was certainly very harsh on my wallet since the trip cost me about $100 in gas!!

What's the build date of your vehicle? Does it fall under the VIN range that might need a new oil pan? I had that happen early on when I first got my car. After getting the new oil pan, it never happened again. For some reason the TSB link is not working so I can't reference that particular article.

I had the 2nd issue before. that may mean you are at the upper limit before you have to add oil. If you added oil & it doesn't come on any more in the near future than that was the situation. You may want to check your oil level. You do know that the oil gauge is a dummy gauge right ? It is not indicative of your oil level.
