Lowering springs + CAI voiding engine warranty?
I've had 3 personal friends, one of which is a parts mgr at a local Mazda dealer tell me my lowering springs may cause my engine replacement to be denied.
I haven't had brought it in yet. But my car is running VERY hot and I've got milky **** on the dipstick. My 8 isn't my DD anymore so I was talking with these people since I want a compression test done when spring rolls along and they're saying my springs and intake could void my warranty depending on the Mazda rep.
Further more I do not have proof of oil changes, or at least all of them. I've moved 5 times within the last 2 years and got my oil changed at so many different places. And I've done my own a few times.
Annndd on top of that my trans is whining and my diff is pissing out fluid.
I don't know what to do with this car anymore.....
It's got 79,900 miles, I'm the second owner. And my warranty claim sheet is 4 pages long. I may keep it parked and trade in next year.
What do you guys think?

No offense but your friends are typical clueless dealer workers.
I am on my third engine, both were replaced with mods installed. On the first replacement they did not ask for any maintenance records, that is something started later. Federal law stipulates they have to prove the mod caused damage. besides, mazda sells coil overs, lowering springs, and a CAI. None of which are manufactured by mazda (Eibach, Tokico, and AEM)

No offense taken, I agree with you.
You know, and I'm sorry to rant, but I ve put up with this cars problems for 4 years, 4 YEARS! I almost feel that this engine is owed to me if mine fails a compression test. I mean seriously, I have a car with a messed up trans, leaking diff, and possibly a bad engine!
I don't drive my car any different than other people and Mazda has tried to blame abuse for most of my problems on this car. I don't know, I guess I'll just take it in and see what happens. At least it's still running...

Some RX8's have more problems than others... Mine is perfect, nothing wrong... But my friend has a ton of small problems like a very slow, glitchy Nav while my other friend has bigger problems like transmisson.
I read a Car&Driver article stating that most cars are composed of ~ 10,000 parts... Now if the car is built right 99.9% there's still 20 parts that don't work correctly.
Sadly your cars 20 problems (assuming your car was built 99.9% right) could of been major problems like the Engine and transmisson. :/

I don't know, if my engine claim is denied. I'm probably going to research engine swaps. Seeing as how my engine and trans are having issues.....
But has anyone been denied an engine due to this issue?

The Parts manager is the King of the Village idiots
define "hot"
how are you measuring that? Gauges? AP? OEM temp gauge?
Are you still running that K&N hot air intake? If so, take it out asap and put the OEM box back in.
THIS is going to be your biggest issue.
Scrounge up all the invoices you can and see how big the gaps in there are. If you have more then 7k between an oil change, that could be a problem. (see Schedule 2 maintenance in your OM)
is the clutch slipping? OEM?
how much is the diff leaking? could be an easy fix, get it checked out before it becomes a bigger problem.
what do you want to do with this car?

My relationship has been a long and tumultuous one as well but after all these years you learn to love her and treat her the way she wants to be treated and she will reward you
Think of it like you are dating Penelope Cruz, she is probably an annoying bitch 75% of the time but then when you are in the bedroom that other 25% of the time you forget about the other 75% when you want to put your foot in her ***.

at this point all you have left is the engine warranty, most bets are off, if you ARE worried, get it compression checked, NOT at that dealer.
i really don't know how people are screwing up their transmission. it does seems kind of weak but with stock power i just don't see how.
leaking diff?.. like from where?

Time to get out the bank statements and highlight purchase of oil from wal-mart and any other indications that you have went here and there to get a oil change or paid for the stuff and did it yourself. Yes take the intake out and I also had a 8 with tons of problems as soon as a month past from driving it off the lot. I had springs and intake and my cat was hollowed out had syn oil change reciptes and they still replaced my motor

Your friends are idiots.

I can see the intake being an issue but the springs should never deny an engine warranty.
Are you still running that K&N hot air intake? If so, take it out asap and put the OEM box back in.
THIS is going to be your biggest issue.
Scrounge up all the invoices you can and see how big the gaps in there are. If you have more then 7k between an oil change, that could be a problem. (see Schedule 2 maintenance in your OM)
when was the last time you replaced the transmission fluid?
is the clutch slipping? OEM?
how much is the diff leaking? could be an easy fix, get it checked out before it becomes a bigger problem.

The heat issue: I'm not measuring it with a gauge since the oem gauge is worthless. After a short drive, my engine bay is so hot the prop burns my hand.
My intake: yea it's a k&n v2 and I have a CF ram air duct with the vfad delete
trans: yes first thing I did was flush it. It howls very loudly when the car is coasting; however it shifts perfect.
Diff- it's leaking from where the DS meets the diff, I already bought the seal just waitng to put it on when I pull the car out of winter storage. The diff also howls lightly when the car is accelerating.
Oil change records- damn near impossible to gather them all together.
What do I want to do- have my car be normal, for once. But then again problems is the norm so I guess I don't know what I want; I just love rx8s and don't have money to fix an engine, trans, AND diff.

Aside from a dealer, where can I get a compression check?
