You should do it any time you disconnect the battery.
It could be part of your issue.
You can also clean your ESS and MAF sensor if you haven't done so.
You do the stomp after cleaning the ESS also.

If the battery has been disconnected for a couple weeks, the fuel trims need to be relearned by the ecu. It takes a few drive cycles for them to be relearned which is normal from my experience.

I have heard of this before but i didnt really take it seriously. Its a beautiful car, but learn? Really? If so does it forget how to start properly or idle?

Yeah, kinda like rebooting the ECU.

The search button is your friend.

Did the 20 stomp and still the same. Checked spark with the coil kit on and its an orange spark. I was always told it should be blue. I just took it out for the secong drive since the batt got connected so maybe its still learning.

Are you absolutely sure the leads are connected in the right order? It could be that they were wrong to begin with, and you copied the wrong layout. Or, they could have been right to begin with, and you accidentally mixed them up. The latter happened to me, so there is no shame in it.

When i removed the oem coils i labled each plug one at a time. The order its in is front L then T
Then back L then T. Cant be wrong i was very cautious. And it runs like a dream once it goes. It just stalls when you let off.

You should have a blue white spark. Check the ground and make sure it's well grounded. You were correct on the wire order...FL FT RL RT front to back. Maybe check the wire colors for the trigger wires though

It idles trailing first. .so if they have trailing firing issues it will show up at idle and run OK everywhere else

Check your throttle body as well....the idle control.is done through that

Weren't these installed by a shop? They can't figure out a stalling issue? It sounds like diagnosis by parts replacement.

I shouldn't be speaking for the OP, but he said the shop ordered them for him, but Idk if they installed it.

Another reason why the 8 is an enthusiast's car, having to depend on someone else to work on an 8 leaves the owner at the mercy of someone who may not know much more about a Renesis than the owner.

Hell, that is only the beginning in 99% of my transactions and these guys need long-term support because the age of the average RX-8 these days makes them a real hassle to own.
For someone who doesn't know their way around under the hood, they're a hassle.
For others it's a challenge.

Those of us who have been here for a few years know how you treat your customers.
I remember you offering me advice when I first got mine before I knew you were a vendor.

I wish I was 20 years younger, I believe I could make good money buying, fixing, and flipping 8s.

Ok, reading back, he installed them, not a shop.

Yes you got it to a T. No shops around here. Just the dealer. And i really like working on this car its need i say fun. Yes i installed them and yes i do all the work i can. I do have a friend come over and plug in An obd and he got a o2 code and the gap set code for the ess. Not sure if that can be adjusted. Really i just come on the ol club forums read and search then run out in the drivway and go at it.
From the top.
Bought the car a year ago(ok maintenance from old owner)
Replaced coils wires and plugs all with oem a few months after purchasing.(due to start problems)
Work fine until one day it just wouldnt start.
Got new batt starter and ess
Got it started after fighting with it giving up and pushing down the hill it fired up and ideled fine worked fine.
Burnt that gas and was scared to shut down at a staion so i went home. Then got gas with the truck and brought it back.
Let cool and tried it it would not start. Push down hill started but kinda rough. Still ideled fine worked fine. Desided to get stronger spark maybe bad coils again so i got the kit and here we are. Sorry for the book

Do you have a stock intake?
Have you checked for oil in the intake and cleaned the MAF sensor?
Checked the vacuum lines?
There are many things that can cause your issue.
You can eliminate some of those possibilities fairly easily.
I suggest searching a good troubleshooting procedure and start with that.
I think that thread I posted the screenshot of had some good info.

ESS Gap set code? No such thing.

Check the screens in your intake.

These are the instructions for the AEM but it's essentially the same identical intake.

How many screens should there be.
