Lurker turned poster
Hi, gals and guys!
I've only lurked here before, and would like to thank the site and its posters for all of the info I've received during the last three years.
I own a 2004 titanium gray 8, and have enjoyed the car even more than I did my Miata, which I owned for 12 years.
The 8 has caused very little trouble. I flooded her once and got the battery upgrade. On boards like this, problems (and rightly so) get a lot of the press, but I bet there are many more of us who have mainly gotten to experience what a great car we have.
This is the first rotary I've owned. I must say that I love the way Mazda set it up. Many disagree, I know, but the balance of power, 6-speed tranny, and overall driveability is just excellent for me. You can push the car hard and have lots of fun, but you can also just glide around town in laid-back mode.
I've never seen a car that looks so different depending on your viewing angle. I figure this is a result of the useable back seat issues, and I'm not complaining at all. I was looking for unique, and this car is that. Everyone who rides in the back seats is amazed at the room they have.
Unlike some of you, I am in love with the DSC and TCS. Apart from hard acceleration and braking a few times a week (just for practice in case of emergencies, of course :<), I am probably fairly easy on Roxy.
I think we should all congratulate ourselves on our choice of sports car. The RX8 can be both civil and rowdy, and behaves impeccably when that urge to "test" her can't be suppressed.
Thanks again, all! I have enjoyed the site very much.

The different angles- look you get from the RX8 is probably one reason that many people still don't know what we're driving. In reply to the poster who said good to look around before posting, I guess three years certainly qualifies!
And coming from the Miata, the back seats are a real blessing for sports car enthusiasts. Sports cars are great for a date, but there are so many times you just need to haul around friends & family. And... three friends can check out your car at the same time!
I've been lucky. The Miata was my dream car. The 8 was too. Fortunately I have been able to buy them both. It helps if you don't need a McLaren to make you happy.

Zoomy, my RX-8, has saved my second childhood.
I was too tall to fit in the Miata, and the other roadsters (Z4, 350Z, etc.) either didn't appeal or were more than I wanted to spend. Then I discovered the 8 while my wife was still pointing at Acuras.

Well said, I love the car, too. I had three Miatas over 15 years, and on a crisp, sunny day—or warm summer night—I do miss top down driving. But for the other 85% of the time I just love having the 8. And yes, it is nice having a back seat to toss stuff onto or to pick up a friend at the airport. (And I have to admit, there were times with the Miata when I'd pull up to a girl's house on a first date and I could just tell she was thinking "ok so where's your real, grownup car??" Same when driving somewhere for a job interview.)
I love roadsters, but if it's your only car, it's like showing up—no matter where you go or what you're wearing—in a t-shirt and jeans.
