maintenance?

I am 19, just researching on my next car which I will get when my current car is about to die. On average, how much money goes in to maintenance per month? I know gas will be a bit more than other cars as well as insurance. What is the best gas grade to get..91 and above? How much more expensive is owning an RX-8 rather than a regular everyday car such as a Grand Am, Maxima, etc..

Alot of factors must be first considered b4 this answer can be given!
Like Age, location, are u financing, etc. Reason I say this is bcuz these all play apart in what u will pay i can give u what I pay per month
Age:21
location:NYC
financing:$365
insurence: $550
gas:$150-200
You I'm paying about 1000 a month for this car while others will be different then I am due to different things! So calculate what your insurence and ur payments will be b4 u buy this car then add what ever u pay for gas plus $50 hope I helped

I'm in a good mood.

I don't spend too much on maintenance per month. Really, every 3 months I do an oil change, get an extra quart of oil for top offs.

Spark plugs, Coils and wires are good to change out at 30k miles. They aren't too terribly expensive. Really, there isn't anything super unique/expensive with this car. Just the gas, which 91 is good to go with. People have had success with all grades, really.

So far, the only things I've done to mine is oil changes and tires.

I have owned my 8 since 2/2004 and compared to other cars I have owned basic maintenance is not more than another car. However I enjoy this car so much I spend money on mods and track time which increases the costs of ownership which I wouldn't have incurred with a Kia. The one thing you should do with the 8 that wouldn't do with a Maxima is spend time learning about the rotary & the quirks of the RX-8.

Wow. $550/month for insurance? Is that typical for RX8 owners in the under-25 age group? There would be no way I could afford to pay that when I was in school.

Depends on your record and age. Location is also a factor. I'm 24 years old and for my insurance right now I have 4 cars covered and pay 240 a month total lol... 03 Saab 9-3, 04 RX8, 02 Focus and a 95 Miata. I don't want to think about paying 550 a month for one car! Almost makes it not worth it... paying more in insurance than the car you own?

yea 550 a month is steep, however i have already checked and i would still be under my parents insurance and it would be about 150 a month for insurance, another 250 for payments, and about 100-150 for gas.

Being young and living in NYC sucks when it comes to insurance. My friend at 18 years old... with one accident and 1 speeding ticket... his insurance went up to 9k a year for an old 1994 chrysler.

He was forced to put his name under xxxxxxx 's house in the suburbs. Cut the price in more then half.

As i said, NYC sucks for new drivers below the age of 22. Even without the accident and tickets, a new driver in a sports car is looking at 5-6k a year.

If I told you the car blows up crusing on the hwy, you'll still buy the car and ask if you should get the sport model or GT model.
