Anyone know exactly how long it takes Mazda to build an 8 from start to fininsh? Just curious since my build date was last week and I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas.:D

Please educate me...

Why is everyone ordering cars and waiting for them?

Most large Mazda-only dealerships here in Southern California have 8 to 10 RX-8s sitting on the lot to choose from and if they don't have what you want, most dealers I spoke with said that they were more than willing to dealer trade to get the exact model that you want. I know a lot of people ordered their RX-8 before they were on the lots, but couldn't you just cancel your order, get your deposit back and buy one off the lot?

My dealer is looking for the one I want right now. He calls other dealers and sees if they have the type of RX-8 I want. If you order it can take like 3 to 4 months I believe. Hopefully he finds the one I want, or I'll have to wait a long time.

Well since I'm getting absolutely no input on my original question, I'll address y'alls.

Personally I ordered mine because I knew exactly when I wanted to buy the car and I knew exactly what I wanted. So why not order? By doing so, I know exactly what I'm getting and pretty close to when. I'm also assuming my car will have virtually no miles. If I hadn't ordered I would have had to have my dealer find one and then I wouldn't know anything about it. Those are my reasons.

Now, does anyone know how long it takes to manufacture the car?!?!

it's probably finished by now. My build date was 6/26, and I had my car on 8/8.

Don't worry RX22...Shouldn't be too long. I ordered on 09/01...by build date was first/second week of October, w/delivery by mid-November. Most of the time is shipping on a slow-a** boat all the way here, then sitting in customs.

Manufacturing

Takes a day to build...I even heard that if it was built in the beginning of the week it is better....they rush to get out of work towards the weekend. Crazy, huh. My source knows someone who works for a manufacturer. It's the shipping time and rail time/truck time that takes so long. 6-8 weeks on average from build date. I ordered mine Aug. 8th... built Sept. 1.... due 4th week of this month. At the time there was one car almost exact the way I wanted except for rotary pkg but it was not at a dealer yet which was kinda far from me so I ordered one. The wait is excruciating but gives me time to sell my current car. Email Mazda and they should let you know where the car is at. Good Luck!
