1st you should NOT buy the AT and get the MT. What does takin it on a road trip have anything to do with what tranny is in it! Second everyone here is goin to tell u to SEARCH! So u better do that but.....after u figure out how the MT is alot better more HP higher redline just more fun you should prob look around at a dealer for something in ur pricerange...As for mods enjoy the car how it is ur still young learn to drive it safely then do mods(that is mods that help hp at all rims etc are all just preferance)

1) you should do more research
2) you should see if you can afford the car
3) you should take it to autocross and realize that this car is more than you can handle stock.

think about gas prices first, I know when I was in high school, my mustang ate gas, and now this thing eats gas. Make sure you can afford everything first. But at least buy a MT if ya decide to buy one and research EVERYTHING you can about these engines. They take alot more care and devotion than all of your buddies cars.

If you're not going MT, don't bother, honestly.
Three good reasons:
1. Less power and less reliability, especially if you go for one of the cheaper '04 models.
2. Less control over the car.
3. Anyone that knows anything about sports cars won't take you seriously if you drive automatic. Sad but true.
You need to go spend $500 on a piece of **** car with a manual gearbox and learn to drive it like a pro for a couple months. Then you can go get the RX8 and drive it the way it's meant to be driven....
...assuming you can afford the gas. Seriously kid, you're gonna be kicking yourself if you try to own this beastie in college. Get something you can beat on and treat like ****, you'll be happier in the long run.

15,000 miles a year.
18 MPG
$4.50 gasoline
$3750 in gasoline costs ALONE (about $50-60 a fill up, every 210 miles), with the big assumption that you'll be getting 18mpg, and only driving 15,000 miles a year (fat chance)
And that figure is only going to get higher as gas prices get worse.
Don't get an AT. Be a man and learn to drive stick if you're going to make such a terrible (but fun) financial investment.

Wow, when I was in highschool everyone drove manuals. I learned to drive on a manual. In fact when I took drivers ed to get my license I kept stomping the floor board everytime it was time to stop. That scared the crap out of the instructor.
Edit: Drivers ed car was of course an automatic!
Double Edit:
Actually I would suggest financing any car you buy. I don't care if the car costs $1,000 or $50,000. Yes interest will be high, but it is a good way to start building credit! Just make sure you can afford the car before you sign your name, and by that I mean gas, maintainance, insurance, etc. Also you should be able to call your (parents maybe) insurance company and get a price quote on 6 months of coverage.

Double Edit:
If you're going to finance an RX8, look at something else.

$10.50/Hr?
Dang, with a low income like that, the first 5-7 days of the month you are working to just buy gas for the car, assuming you work 40 hours/week. And then day #8 thru ( ?) you are working just for some future mods.
Take their advice, get a reliable beater to get around until you can really afford a sports car.

1(at least in my life) nobody especially stupid friends that like to be idiots drive my car) I just drove 1475 miles from pa to fl bymyself and it was great. Especially with the manual driving this car is FUN I mean I drove for 12 hours straight without stopping(except for fuel lol) and like it did not seem like that at all oh and dont' buy an AT for the fact that your goin on a trip for a week you have to live with this car for awhile. Oh and you better learn to appreciate the power/learn how to drive this car anytime before a turbo is thought about. If you're planning on racing(on a closed course of course) you might as well look somewhere else even with the turbo this car is all handling not made for a 10 second car ha not even 13 stock haha Oh and what other cars are you looking at?

If you're set on the 8, you have to go MT. Don't sacrifice the whole point of your car just because your retarded friends won't enjoy it on a road trip. The car's pretty cramped anyway, I can't imagine it being a good roadtrip car for more than two people. And remember, when that roadtrip is over, you'll still have an automatic and you might be kicking yourself.
Also, if you think the car isn't fast enough for you stock, go back and drive an MT and push it as hard as you can. You may be amazed at how much power it has. If you are already planning to turbo it before even buying the car, you might want to go with something that's more of a dragster from the get-go - perhaps a Mustang or other domestic that's built to go fast in a straight line.
This is a gentleman's sportscar, in the tradition of the fine British roadsters of old. It's about finesse and smoothness, and the ability to take corners with grace. It's about holding your speed, rather than cornering poorly and making up for it with massive power.
Look, I don't want to dissuade you from buying the car, but I do want you to come into it with the right mindset. If you're still set on an automatic so that your buddies can drive it, then you need to re-evaluate your priorities. If your goal is to impress them, there's a very real chance that they'll be impressed a lot more by a car that they couldn't even drive if you let them.

Oh, and just as an addendum: are you REALLY considering letting your still-in-highschool buddies drive the car on a road trip? Do you really trust someone who can't even drive standard to take your brand-new $30K not-even-paid-for-car and drive it on roadtrip-style highways with the temptation to just lay the hammer down?
If so, good luck, and I hope you don't have to find out personally how good the airbags are.

i was also thinkin of the 350z of course, the 8's rival haha. and a cheap lancer, tiburon, acura rsx or beamer 325. but i know im getting the rx8, love the looks and i see them all the time and they blow right past me, and my truck isnt slow at all haha. and i was lookin more towards the MT in the first place. i dont plan to turbo it for awile, i wana see how the engine is first. i dont think id race it for fear of damaging it. i treat my truck like a baby and its only worth like 7k, so we'll see what i do wen i have a 20k car =)

Get the car bro youll love it! I got mine when i was 17 (my birthday was 12 days before getting it)
I paid for my down payment and im paying for the payments and everything.
I did it making 6-7 bucks a hour..
this was when gas was liek 2 bucks haha
this was in Hs when i was getting paid dump lol haha
I financed it and im never getting rid of it! its gonna be my kids first car haha and thats still on debate haha and i dont even have kids hahah
My first pick was the EVO 8 i wanted a white one it was actually 1K and soem change bucks cheaper than the 8
evo being
31K and my 8 being 33K and i dont regret it!.. black ones look soo clean!
I love the white pearl ones (mine)
I dislike the silver and pretty much al the other colors red is nice to.. but most of the 8's are hidious especially the ones that are anemic (non appearance package) id never want to be in one of those.
hondas arent crap man th ose new civic Si's are nice I prefer the 4 door since the 2 door are ugly and performance is aroundt he same in the straight line.. bu in the track is when the 8 shows its true colors.. but how often do you get on a track???
gas is bad but i fill up usually once my needle leaves me witha quaarter left and thats usually around 180 miles but its only about 10-11 gallons which is around 47-48 bucks to fill her up. tires are expensive too.
got the car with 3 miles and now she has 46K miles.. int he state of texas (car was abught in IL)
Its a great car its one of those cars where it feels like the car was built around you not vice versa.. Its funny how so much people do gont he 8 because its no rx7
but once they drive it theyu learn to appreciate it and actually put it in a league of its own because truly this car is on a league of its own..
