Maximum Speed per gear?

Anyone know the maximum speed per gear (with drag) at 9k RPMs? If so, I would appreciate it if you post them.

I know third is around 97mph but not sure on the rest of the gears.

Drag has nothing to do with the relationship between engine speed and vehicle translational speed. The numbers above look right to me, with the exception of 6th gear. The speed listed for 6th gear doesn't correspond to 9k RPM, rather it is probably the drag-limited max speed.

The numbers above look right for 9k, but the fuel doesn't cut out till higher. I think the fuel cut offs are around 42, 68, 94, and 128. Haven't tried 5th or 6th.

No, it's the electronically limited speed. Redline in 5th gear is 147 or 148 mph, but in 6th the ECU limits the car to the same 148. Without an electronic limit, the drag-limited top speed would be around 160 mph.

Gordon

It is interesting that 5th and 6th are roughly the same speed. I am assuming 6th is geared higher and is basically a good gas mileage gear?

Does the ECU actually cut you off at 148 ot 155? I remember reading several that stated the cut off was at 155 but maybe than was with the original 250hp version.

many people have reported topping out at higher than 148 in the 6 speeds. I guess they could all be lying...

I have only had more car for two weeks and the fastest I have had it is 110 so far.

I had my S2000 to 146 (top up) and I had to slow down.

The S2000 pulls great up to about 130 and then it is slower going to the true top ends.

My guess is that the 8 pulls slow above 130 or so but I dont know for a fact.

I had the demo I was driving up to 175 (KM/h) last weekend.

Haven't had my car up past 130 or so yet.

Airport run.....

226kph, 146mph at 'beeper' in 5th. (68*F, 2700ft elev)

Tried changing to 6th, but lost a little speed - back to 5th, but couldn't get any faster. :o

Did the limit feel due to air drag or some other limit (engine power or perhaps electronic limiting) ?

Drag.....

Really felt like drag, car was willing, but 6th was just too high, and 5th kept 'maxing out'.

You can't do 9000RPM in 6th gear. It maxes out at 148.

Right, but the original question was: "Anyone know the maximum speed per gear (with drag) at 9k RPMs?" Without the electronic governer and assuming the engine had enough power, say with FI, one could potentially reach 9000 RPM in 6th gear. The original response didn't clarify that 148 mph in 6th gear was electronically limited, so an unknowledgeable person might conclude that 5th and 6th gears have almost identical ratios.

Buckeye,

I am certain 6th is geared higher but I would be curious what the theoretical top speed would be not drag limited in 6th.

This has been dealt with in several other threads, and in none of those have I seen anyone present any evidence that the RX-8 is electronically limited to 148 mph. And many people claim to have gone faster.

I think the 148 mph limiter is a myth. Top speed is drag limited.
