May Sign This Week!

Hey Guys,

new to the forum, and as you all can probably guess i have the RX8 in my sights....

In fact i'm probably going to sign for one this week!

It took me some time to come to this decision as i have been looking for a car since early February..

I test drove the 350Z, all I have to say is this car belongs on the track..Period!...the ride is way too stiff, the shifter feels like a 35 lb dumbell, you feel every single bump in the road, while the acceleration was pretty noticeable the overal ride was way too stiff / unpractical for the amount of money they're asking for the car...not to mention they're only two seats, no sunroof, the trunk (if you want to call it a trunk) is taken up by the crossbar, the quality of the interior parts do not total more than $17.00 in my opinion...

I also drove the RX8. I must say that i was a bit dissapointed by the acceleration (only because the last mazda i drove was the RX7 twin turbo) and I would think that the 8 would be pretty close if not faster..But the handling, interior, and overall feel of the car made up for the acceleration in a matter of minutes....

so anyhow any advice /tips you guys can give me would be much appreciated...From what i have researched so far i know that to avoid flooding the car should warm up before driving and cool down before turning off, also oil needs to be checked every 3-4 times you fill up...Is there anything else I should know about the car before making the big step?
likes / dislikes....

Actually to avoid flooding, make sure the car has warmed up before you shut it off. There's no need for an extended warm up prior to driving the car, nor any need for a special cool-down procedure (other than what you'd do with any other car) - the exception being if you're going to shut the car off prior to it being warmed up, in which case you should let it warm up before turning it off.

so what ou're saying is if i start the car and drive it cold, when i get to wherever i am going to just let it sit for a few minutes prior to shutting it off?

and if i start the car and let it warm up before driving it then when i get to where i am going i can shut it off without waiting a few minutes?

As long as car is warm/hot you should be good. Have also heard if you blip throttle right before shut down, this will work too. Do a search on the flooding there's many, many, many posts.

buy it!!

Thumbs up

Thanks Guys :D

Have any of you noticed your oil level getting low at all after like the first thousand miles?...the dealer himself told me that these cars live on oil more so than other cars and that it is crucial that it be maitained....how many times have you actually had to ADD oil to you car...

Next issue help me pick a color..lol I like the yellow, especially in a sports car....Red is cool too....

I'd urge you to do a search about oil consumption and the RX-8.
Rotarys are designed to burn a small amount of oil.
I've had a red rotary since '88 ... all the colors look good on the 8.
Buy it, drive it, grin .....

About the acceleration you said: its not possible to ask EVERYTHING from a good car. This is what I tell everyone that questions 'why not buy the 350Z, the WRX or the S2000'
Having all those great accesories (at least mine does: heated seats, 8 airbags, sunroof, great sound system, satnav and so on) means a lot of weight. Even the rx-7 is well 150kg lighter that the 8. Rip them all out and the 8 will be equally fast. But if I wanted that I would buy a race car istead. Even if I wanted to spend more money for a car I simply wouldn't. I would go for the 8 again.
Sorry if all this is irrelevant, I just wanted to share that idea. Go ahead and sign for it, you won't regret it!

Go for black, it's spooky!

i hear ya,

to be honest this will be my first Brand New Car...and i get so many conflicting opinions when asking my buddies what they think of the 8...some like it some don't, i know it comes down to personal preference i just want to be sure i am making the right move here...that's all...i feel much better about buying the car now...the next issue: i've been hearing that Mazda will be offering either a rebate or an attractive APR very soon, have you heard of this at all?...I may just go through capital one..they have 3.9 for 60 months...can't really beat that...

Thanks for the info bro...

You'll always get people saying things like "you shoulda bought ...[blah blah blah]"
I say let them go buy the vehicle they like and go spend your money on what you want. Nobody knows what YOU need in a vehicle except you. If the 8 is the only vehicle that meets all your needs then by all means get it.

I bought my 8 last week (4/20/04 -- should be here next week!), and they had an incentive if you financed through Mazda American Credit (MAC) of $500. The catch was you had to pay the first payment, and the rate was 5.9% for 60 months -- way higher than anywhere else I looked. I did it anyway -- $500 off, then I pay off the car with another loan after the first payment.

i totally agree, i looked at the 350Z, a 200 Vette, and do not like the G35...to be honest something about the 8 just stuck to me, looks are really big with me and i think the 8 looks way sportier than any of those cars, i mean if you think about it 238 horse is plenty, even if acceleration isn't explosive it's well made up for in other areas....i like the 8 and am going with it...

as for the financing i am definitely going to go with Capital one if they can give me 3.9....and i am willing to be anyone that in the next few weeks or so you will see promotional incentives (apr/rebates) to help push out as many 8's as possible....i just hope they can be combined with the s-plan.
