Talking Maybe I'm just getting old...

Let me just start off by saying I love my new RX-8! I have had it for about a month now and I have had no complaints. But I do have to say that it would have been nice to have memory seats & auto climate control in the GT package. Like I said, maybe I'm just getting old

Mazda left out some stuff that they can add ($) in future model years. You'll just have to buy an 07 or an 08 or.... Oh, yeah, congrats and enjoy.

Not having auto climate is my biggest beef about this car. Maybe it is an age thing, I'm 38, which seems old on this forum.

Considering the rather weak air conditioning, I'm not sure auto climate would work that well in the Rx8.

I got mine a little over a month ago, and truly, my only complaint is the weak-*** air conditioning.

Of course, my last car was a VW Passat with meat-locker-like air conditioning, so maybe that's my problem.

i dont mind not having auto climate control, i dont use my ac unless its really hot out, becuase of better mpg/power without it. wouldnt the auto climate control kick it in whenever it thought it needed to?

If I'm not mistaken, a few countries other than the U.S.A. get auto climate control. Really...Mazda would it have cost sooooooo much more to add it to the U.S. model since you are already producing the system???

Then again I specificly wanted manual seats and no leather so I'm happy. My 93 Rx-7 Touring had leather and I was constantly sliding around. Loved the cloth seats in the R1/R2 package.

Yes. The auto CC would try to keep a constant temp, and if it was set lower than the weak *** AC could handle it would just run constantly. So basically, we all have auto climate control. Turn it on and let it run; it won't ever reach that cold, comfortable temp anyway.

MPG would probably be pretty close either way, b/c the resitance from open windows vs. AC chug would even out. I'm not sure about the power draw, though.

I agree. I'm not bothered about auto climate control. Had it on my last car and it was OK, but it's not that hard to adjust the fan and temp controls. But the fact that the A/C barely works around town is pretty irritating. It's ice cold on the highway, but blows warm air in town when you can't get up to a decent speed or are sitting at a light.

Keeping your windows cracked during the day is helpful. Oh well, it's really only maybe 3 1/2 months of the year when the temps get extremely high around here, so I guess I can live with it.

Congrats on the car, mafenton! The A/C is my only complaint about the car, and I've had it for almost 3 years, 60,000 miles. Not bad, huh?

My air conditioning works fine, doesn't seem to put much drag on the engine. But I would like a little LED light right by the little port where the oil stick goes - and also a silver or light colored oil stick. I can get the white light and the red light behind the music system but some one told me there was a blue one as well - only see blue on the instrument panel - anyone ever hear of a way to turn on a blue background?

The air conditioning is a little weak in stop and go driving when outside temp is in the 90's, no doubt about it but I've seen worse. The only thing I would have liked is a telescoping steering wheel like they have in the Mazda 3, again, no biggie but would be nice.

I have no complaints about the A/C. While it's not an icebox it does well keeping a comfortable temp.

the Japanese, NZ and Aussie models all have auto AC can't understand why they didn't give the U.S models this, but the list of differences between countries could fill a phone book!

Well, I'm 38 too, and I don't care for auto climate control. I'm perfectly happy with the manual kind... If I can drive a manual transmission, I can operate a manual CC system.

Hightshoe, the "automatic" part of the auto climate control can be disabled so that you have manual control over the temperature, fan speed, air distribution mode, and the use of the A/C compressor... Within limits. If you use the window defrost, the A/C compressor will run regardless, and in any "mode" other than blowing air out of the dash vents (floor, floor/face, floor/defrost), the A/C compressor will run periodically even if you don't enable it... Just like the MANUAL system in the RX8, if my memory of the owner's manual is correct.

In "automatic", it's up to the system what to do and I don't think you can turn off the compressor.

At least that's the way it was on my Mazda6, that had an automatic CC system... one that I almost NEVER used in automatic, as I preferred the manual control.

Some future model of the 8 will likely have automatic climate control - the display seems cribbed from a Mazda 6 with ACC...

I don't care much about the auto climate control. I like turning it on and off. And as people pointed out the air conditioner is weak. It needs to be on full cold, at like 3 (for fan speed) and on circulate for the car to be relatively cool (not cold even!). At least that's the way it is on mine. I just turn mine on when it gets disgustingly hot (which is every day now... I hardly ever used it until summer hit and now I'm using it daily) and turn it off when it's not overbearingly hot in my car (or when I have passengers).

The one "luxury" feature I would've REALLY liked in the car is Bluetooth. It's nice to have when you're driving manual. I bought a bluetooth headset, but it would be nice to not have to dig it out, turn it on and put it on each time. And then you also have to charge it...

I bought my 2004 RX8 Monday and the A/C has done very well in hot Florida panhandle weather. I've been very pleased with its cooling performance (cold air quickly, even in stop-and-go traffic). As for the automatic seat adjustments, I'm the only one who drives my car so it's not a big deal to me at all.
