mazda 3 speed slow??
So i went to the track w/ my buddy this weekend and there were two m speed 3's racing in the 1/8. Now i thought these cars were supposed to be fast?! they both ran consistant 9.8's sometimes 10's. just thought ide share my disbelief. oh and saw stock colbalt ss w/ methonal injection run an 8.7. thts pretty impressive for a stock pulley colbalt. anywhoo read on

Driver skill all the way, and the fact that the boost is limited in the first 2 gears.
I'd hardly call the Speed 3 slow. If anything, the car has to be damn fast. I have never driven one, but the fact is the car, even being FWD is capable of pulling off high 13s bone stock with the right driver. I personally don't go by 1/8 or even 1/4 mile as the tell tale sign of speed. Even my Speed 6 being 400lbs heavier with the same amount of power has some very impressive power once moving. From a roll, this car is faster then the times show. It's a pretty mean highway roller, and one has to take that into consideration.

yes they were speeds both were black and identical has after market blow off valves on both of them and i went and looked at them after they raced. and 9.8's n the 1/8 are super slow thats prolly low 15's in the quarter my stock srt ran high 8's like 8.8 = 13.6 n the quarter i think. so a ms stock i dont beleive is a mid 13 car. and both cars were equally slow. wasnt trying to start a debate just wanted to share what i saw this week. my stock 8 would run 9.3's ...

It's definitely not a mid 13s car stock, but I have seen some time slips breaking the 14 second barrier. Perhaps those people lie a bit when they say bone stock though. Just a few minor mods or altercations and/or the right conditions can put it into the 13s with a capable driver.
There is no debate. If anything, this thread shows just how much the driver plays a role. Put an inexperienced driver in a manual FWD, and many times they won't run close to what it's suppose to run. Now if this were an automatic GTO or something, you can pull off consistent times all day, and driver skill plays a very small role. I watched a guy pull off low mid 13s in his auto GTO, and he didn't really have any skill. When it comes to manuals, especially FWD, skill is everything, anbd even the fastest cars can seem slow.
I even watched a guy in an RX8 run mid 15s every single run. I think you get the point.

One of my good friends has a silver MS3. All I can say is that thing is damn fast, blows the rx8 out of the water, At upper highway speeds the difference isn't as noticable but off the line and at slower speeds its a rocket. He actually bought my stock wheels and is painting them gunmetal. It will look pretty nice

1/8 mile is probably not a good representation of the MS3's abilities as the torque is reduced in the first two gears to aid traction and reduce torque steer.

If 1/4 mile races were suddenly turned into 1/2 mile races, we'd be seeing a breed of cars otherwise not showing the best times beating those cars who put out better times in the 1/4. It would interesting to see, but I'm sure there are plenty who don't want to see that.

if it was a beast off the first few gears then the 1/8 is where it should do awesome in.. high 9's is not impressive that is like rsx's , tiburons, sentras, civic si's.... my 8 did 9.3 stock im hoping toget a 8.9's now w/ my mods and even lower when i spray my nitrous. *now it could have just been the drivers not bashing your ms3*

It's a Cavalier
I had a red Mazdaspeed 3 mess with me once........ once
Theyre not slow (not fast either) but I can see how they're getting them to pull 5.9 and 6.0 second 0-60 times.
