Mazda E-mail Vin Announcement
Better late than never-------
We've just received confirmation from our factory that your 2004 Mazda RX-8 has been assigned a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and is about to be produced to your specifications.
Your VIN is: JM1FE173040100509
It won't be long before the factory completes your car and it's on the way to your Mazda dealer so you can experience the thrill of the all-new, high-revving RENESIS twin-rotary engine! We'll let you know as soon as that happens, but we expect this to occur within 30 days.
In the meantime, did you know Mazda built a specially-equipped RX-8 for the X-Men movie sequel, X2? Click here to see the Mazda RX-8 X-Men car.

This is astonishing. I keep thinking that they can't screw up again and then they go and make it worse. What's most staggering is the international nature of their incompetence. Mazda UK have been irritating us Brits for months and we thought it might be a local problem but it seems Mazda USA are just as stupid! Are all car companies like this or is it just Mazda?!

I emailed rx8orders today and this is what I got.
Dear Josh,
Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I
appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.
In regards to your questions, all of the Pre-Order customers receive
status updates automatically via e-mail. I have confirmed that you are
a Pre-Order Program participant and that your e-mail address is listed
with your order so that you will continue to receive updates.
You will be notified as to when your vehicle is expected for delivery
to your dealership. I do show that your RX-8 order was within the
first order segment, among the first allotment to be delivered. The
first Pre-Orders are expected to be delivered in mid July.

J = Japan
M= Mazda
1 = Passenger Car
F
= RX-8
E
1
= B-series
7
3 = Engine type (Rotary)
0 = Official use only (what ever that means)
4 = 2004
0 = Hiroshima
1
0
0 = Serial Number (Last six are always the serial)
5
0
9
Now this is straight from an official Mazda VIN breakdown sheet!
What I think is funny is how even the VIN is screwed up cause of the 17 being labeled for the B-series trucks.
Also I think it is interesting how the RX-8 is being Labeled as an FE. I would of thought mazda would of used that classification for the future RX-7 (if there is ever going to be one)

With all of us getting the duplicate 509 VIN...the above quote is a major understatement of Mazda's communications. Now you know why the dealers do so poorly...

It's going to fun fighting over this one car:D
I also received two e-mails and with VIN #509
It's not Mazda who is sending the e-mail, but a third party firm. Nonetheless, this vendor they have chosen is less than impressive.

I got two emails with the 509 VIN. I just now got a third email with a VIN of JM1FE173240102178. Has anyone else received the same number?

hahahaa! mindarrow(the email company "handling' this for mazda) is mindf#@%$ing everyone of us. they were probably watching the forum and saw everyone's reactions and have started to try to fix the gaff :D :D :p

I replied to the email and told them we were all getting the same VIN#. Correct emails started less than two hours later. Not bad under the circumstances. The corrected email has the VIN#the dealer gave me back on May 23rd.
