Mazda Extended Warrenty

Hey Guys,
OK now how many of you think it is worth purchasing the extended warrenty? Right now I got 5 years I think, and for $1800CDN I can get another 2 years, I am debating whether I should get it or not. I got all the special protectants and I think that package was a waste of 800 dollars (rust proof, under coat [good] wax protectant, staingaurd, leathertreatment [neg]) Well let me know what your guy's view is on the extended warrenty.

THanks

I passed on the extended warranty. I did get the rust and sound proofing, but passed on the other two treatments. It would have cost me something like $1200 CDN for all treatments. You'd think that Cars would include such treatments presale wouldn't you?

Count me in....

I bit. :o

I'm pretty sure the base warranty is 36 months, not 5 years.......

I got the 72month/160km warranty, so an extra 36 months.

I don't intend selling, but if I did, I figured the warranty would be a huge selling point - it's fully transferrable. If you were buying a used car, wouldn't you pay extra for one still under Mazda warranty?

May just be a waste of my cash if I keep the car.......

One thing I noticed - I purchased the extended warranty (7 years, 100k miles), but a week ago my service advisor pointed out that it wasn't an extended warranty through Mazda per se, but through a 3rd party company.

Maybe it's different up there...here it is sraight from the Mazda USA site...

"We're so confident in our quality that we now cover all 2003, 2004 and 2005 model year vehicles against defects in materials and workmanship for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. "

Yeah, I was getting confused too... figured all Mazda products had the same Standard warranty (4yr/50k mi) no matter where it's purchased from...

According to the dealer where I purchased the car, the extended Warranty (another 4yrs/50k mi) would cost $1700.00. And from what understood, that extended warranty was from MAZDA not some 3rd party insurance company...

I bought the extended 7year 100k just to cover my ***. It paid off in my Honda when the A/C blew up at 70K. It was over 1G to replace everything and warranty covered it.

They aren't extended warranties...they are "additional warranties".

They plop down on top of your car...aka you have two warranties at once...just one last 6 yrs.

I found this out when I traded in my car and tried to get money back from the extended warranty... Its also not through mazda, they just tell you that to get you to buy it. Its just some random 3rd party entity.

Paint protection = wax (sometimes toughguard if your lucky)
Undercarriage protection = 3 dollar can of underspray, which if applied incorrectly, can actually worsen your stock protection.

I can get you a on a 6 year/100,000 miles on the odometer coverage (vehicle has to be under 18,000 miles) with a company called Vehicle One which is owned by GMAC (owned by GM), its the same plans as the GM Protection Plan vehicle service contracts but for other makes. I would have to check if they will do RX-8s though, I know they dont do 93-95 RX-7s.

my extended is through Geico

I've had Geico Insurance for years as well as their new car extended waranty. I've used it on my past car at 98,000 miles for a complete new AC system as well as many other major repairs after 50k. Their plan is about $45. every 6 months and $200 deductable for any mechanical repair after $50,000. Available only on new cars. It's really skewed for catastrophic ..will pay off easily on new trans, etc. Does not cover service type repairs, brakes, clutch, tires etc.
