Mazda in general

Have you guys noticed that most of the top cars that mazda has all have huge recalls on them.

The speed 6 has a huge powerloss issue where the ECU needs to be flashed

The RX8 has numerous recalls and lots of problems in general that most companies dont have.

Why is it that Mazda has so many problems? Could it be in association with FORD?

No. Don't blame things on Ford - Ford simply provides the financing for Mazda. They don't decide for them to suck at a lot of things.

Mazda has ALWAYS been this way - they release a model, and let the CONSUMER find out about all its problems. As the years go by, they fix the reported problems, until finally most are fixed.

It was the same way with the first gen RX7..second gen, third gen..and will probably be the same for every car they ever build. No R&D is done..

ALL of their cars deserve tons of recalls - you see it on the top models (mainly, the sports cars) because they are A. The ones that are bought most, and B. The ones people BEAT ON!

Actually, if you check, all car manufacturers have lots of recalls. Mazda isn't the worst by a long shot.

The one thing that Mazda seems really bad at is tuning an engine and giving it proper cooling... Multiple flashes for the RX-8 and now a recall. The MSP had big tuning issues, I believe the MS Miata had some, the MS6 has issues, the FD cooling issues and detonation problems. It also sounds like the MS3 is running pig rich and the powerband is a little screwy.

So… does Mazda have significantly more recalls—or more "serious" recalls—than other car companies? I always thought they were not much worse nor better than the others.

I guess mazda at least tries to fix most problems unlike some car companies.

Uhhh, I think it took them about 2 years to get the MSP sorted out, the RX-8 is still having new reflashes 3+ years after release, and the FD issues were never "fixed" in the USDM models.

Ford has a very aggressive QA program. In the mid-90s they hired a bunch of QA folks away from the aerospace industry. If there is crossover between Ford and Mazda at the working level, the recalls probably reflect Ford's quality orientation, and a determination to not let the slightest imperfection slip by.

A major factor in my buying an RX-8 was the Ford connection.

All car has problems. When a Brand X car never had a recall does NOT mean it will NOT have any problem.

ITs just that no one has discover them yet ....

Put it the other way, at least Mazda ALWAYS willing to fix their problems in a timely matter.

You want a **** company ? I put Nissan on the top of my list. Freaking 3 months something still no recall parts. And the recall was issued @ early 2006. Dont give me that *Its new recall so parts will run short*

I actually Mazda pretty good in their recalls, try owning a VW one day and the company tries to put it as user error even though there a TSB out there for a recall. Atleast Mazdas stand behind their products and do it a timely fashion, not open up a case for 2-3 months and then decide to cover the part and reimburse the customer.

Very true.

Even their ultra expensive triple rotor powered "Eunos Cosmo" from 90-95 had a factory recall for burning out AC compressor wiring.

Having driven many "series-8" version RX-7s (99-02) I can tell you they are a well sorted out reliable road weapon compared to the series-6 version of 92-95.

Mazda do test their cars, just not enough as budget & time constraints dont bring out many of the issues consumers find popping up.

At least they (mostly) attempt to fix things
