Mazda Jinx? 3 go down in 1 week...

SO 2 weeks ago, my old Roomate/college buddy with a Red 04, brought his car in because of a check engine light... Turns out he has a failed PCM ?? so the dealer ship wanted to change/swap that out for a new one, but is on back order for 2 weeks...

fast forward one week, myself and my neighbor have check engine lights on, and we brought ours to different dealerships... so 3 seperate dealerships/locations... and we all have the same problem..im just relaying from what I heard back from the Techs... i think it's full of BS, but who knows.. my car wouldnt allow me to rev over 4K when the light was on. so something is wrong, but isnt the PCM the ECU ??

Failed PCM... has anyone else with 2004s, built models in the late 03's, have had this problem?

my friend with the Red 8 has 30K miles, I have 36K miles, my neighbor has 39K miles.

when i brought it in, i told them to do a cat test too just to be sure.

but i find this VERY strange and weird...

discuss... *yes i have searched for similiar situations but found nothing* maybe i suck at searching? *shrugs*

i'll keep you guys updated when i hear more about it on Monday.

Cool Last but not least....

Yes, the classic answer - if the dealer doesn't know what he's doing, he will order a new computer.

That won't fix the problem, but that is irrelevant. The trouble shooting matrix usually has 'faulty PCM' as the last item of each procedure, so it's easy to follow the wrong procedure, get no resolution, and order up the PCM.

If the computer was actually the problem, they would know it.....

***UPDATED***

K here are the Codes that were tested for and retested.

C2778, P0850, P2070

Those were my codes that were constantly been fired. and my friends and Neighbors were different codes. My friend ended up getting a new PCM and got his keys reprogrammed. Mine was fine and no need for a new PCM. The IMTV Accuator was inspected and it was giving them problems as well.
No word yet from my neighbor's.

They said they cleared the codes on my car, test drove it and it popp'ed back up again... rinse, repeat about 3 more times.

One of the tech's mentioned that it was because of the constant Sub-Zero degree weather that is effecting the RX-8.

Zoom44 what do you think?

dealship ordered a new PCM for me when the CEL came on and my cruise quit working. My money still was on the gas cap (doesn't like cold weather and trips the cel). I haven't heard back from them yet on when it'll be in.
