Fact:
Ford owns 31% of the stock in Mazda.
Ford "borrows" ideas from Mazda.
Mazda is owned by Mazda.
Ford helped Mazda through a period of financial crisis.
My RX8 is not a Ford.
Fords are still a POS.

Thanks
Ford does own majority stocks in Mazda, which in turn means they own it.
Its like Documentum and VMware are owned by EMC inc, but they maintain their own CEOs. Think of it as Lexus/Toyota/Scion. He who has the bigger piece of the pie wins.

Ford needs to stick to making trucks. Their trucks are decent, not great, but decent.
And by trucks, I do not include SUV's in that group. Even the SUV's built on truck platforms.
And if you get a ford . . . make sure you have MANUAL windows, door locks, and seats.

I am not anti any company, but I would not buy a Ford unless it was a Mustang.

Also, to people who say Mustangs don't handle and they are strict drag cars. I have seen many Mustangs that are track worthy. Also I have seen RX-8's that are drag worthy. It is all about what you want. If you want an RX-8 and spend the cash to hit 10's and throw a boosted 20b in it, you won't be handling the same anymore. If you want a Mustang and spend the cash to handle well, you won't be drag racing anymore.

You can buy a Yugo and throw $20,000 at it to make it fast. But when the day is done ;

YOU STILL DRIVE A YUGO!!!!

Any car with a ton of expensive mods will do what you want it to.
That same Yugo with the right suspension and tranny/diff mods will also 4x4 better than a Jeep.

FORD CARS SUCK!!!!!!!!!
and the Mustang aint a ford truck, therefore . . . . .

Most of this "who owns" and "who controls who" discussion is silly. I'm sure both companies have executives these days too well versed in brand equity for any of this to matter. The Miata and the rotary are two of the biggest proofpoints of Mazda's "zoom zoom" (or whatever you want to call it) brand - Ford would be a fool to mess with what differentiates Mazda from the marketplace, unless they replace it with something similar.

GM is the exception (see what they did with Saab), but there is only one company in the world that is THAT retarded.

The relationship between Ford and Mazda is a good one. Ford isn't completely stupid. They have some serious red tape and management issues in NA but they have worked with Mazda for many years and it has been benefical to both companies. My 92 Ford Escort had a Mazda motor in it.

As long as Mazda makes good cars and sells well there is no push from Ford to make any changes. Same goes for Ford of Europe.

If Ford ever gets their act together they may be able to supply some funds to Mazda for additional research.

If Mazda was a standalone company they would be ripe for a takeover which could end very badly for Mazda and us.

For you:

I never bashed your car or anyone elses cars. People buy cars that they want. Apparently you wanted a highly underpowered car that looks faster than it truly is. Go drive around some cones in a parking lot wondering if you should shift into 2nd or not.

For everyone else:

Why is everyone on this forum is so hostile to non RX-8's? If it isn't an RX-8, it sucks. People sound ignorant when they generalize about cars, owners and even get down to saying that "fords are built by rednecks with nascar wife beaters on."

Why would you care if Mazda is owned by Ford or not? Your RX-8 isn't any less because of it. People gotta get out of thinking stupid **** like that. You sound like ricers when you talk like that. If you wanted a import with no ties to an American company that handles and is quick, you should have bought an S2000. It would rev to 9000 and actually make power.

I don't see why American car owners are so anti import. They think just because they see Civic's with fart cans, all imports suck. AMERICAN MUSCLE! YA!! LETS PICK UP HANK AND OUR 12 GAUGES AND GO DRINK SOME BUDS AT THE TRACTOR PULL!!!

Also, I just don't see why import people have some ego thing about their car being a pure import. M1NeS JAY DEE EMM!!!!! iT pWn5 U!

Cars are cars. Get what you want and enjoy it. Don't think less of it because of where it is made or the chance that it may be somehow connected to another manufacturer that you dislike.

Alright. End of rant. Just buy your car and have fun with it. Just because you own one model car doesn't mean you have to hate all others.

. . . . etc .
O I C . . . . You must drive a Mustang.
All I have to say is . . . SOLID REAR AXLE!?????????????
Do you live your life 1/4 mile at a time???

I worked at Ford when the new mustang came out. Do you know how hard it is to sell one of those things to an educated buyer? The convertables sold okay. ( actually leased okay, nobody ever really BOUGHT them )

But at least they are still good for one thing; scrap metal goes for about $300 per ton

I swear, I am not normally this evil.

Apparently, you're a retard.

And for the record, your 2000 Mustang GT show similar quarter mile times...even if it's red.
