Well I guess i am going to search because there is bound to be a huge thread on this. Is there a brand that the majority of the forum goers swear by?(sry about the thread hijack)

Wow . . . definitely price out the same grade of oil and do it yourself, or even find a reputable local shop to do it.
That's some big brass ***** charging you over 100% more than they charged the previous owner. Was that previous price at the same dealership?
Yes, you are missing about 239494300211 threads on oil types, synth v. dino, brands, weights . . . etc. etc. ad nauseum . . .

Don't you always drive with oil in your trunk anyway?

I see now why the previous owner got charged so much less. He had them buy Castrol Gtx for the car and not the Mazda recommended one. Yeah I've always carried around a 4l of mentioned oil above that I got from previous owner. But it's empty now. I think I'll go for the Dexelida but change it myself to save some money atleast.

The oil chart from an Australian owner's manual was posted here a few months ago. It showed 5w20, 5w30 and 5w40 as being interchangeable over the range of -30 C to + 45 C. 10w... were good down to -25 C, and various upper limits. 20w... were good down to -15 C. Temps above 45 C needed various flavors of ...w50.
Based on that chart, I'd recommend 5w30. My local dealer has started using 5w30 instead of the official 5w20, and Virginia is a little warmer than Norway.
My opinion is that regular oil, not synthetic, is just fine. Others differ. There's general agreement here on frequent oil changes, every 3000 miles.

I know Norway is expensive but I can hardly believe they only charge $35 for oilchange and oil using the Dexelia oil that's worth its price in gold here.

I pay $30 for an oil change at my dealer. That includes the cost of the oil and filter. They use Castrol GTX. Also within that price they look the car over for problems and top off the fluids. I have not had to buy my own windshield washer fluid since I bought the car.

Shouldn't really be surprising to us should it, when I imported my car it was $70,000 after tax and crap with the currency rates at that time (more like 60k with todays rates). Paying 25 bucks for a litre Dexelia oil at the dealer isn't surprising. But yes, getting it cheaper and doing my oil change myself should save some money

Heh yeah, I've already accepted that this country is fucked up. I'll probably buy the Dexelia from Mazda this time paying blood price and change it myself. I don't really have much money to spend on buying large suppliements of oil atm.

Are you missing something? Hardly. That said, I'd follow Mazda's reco for the country you live in.
