Get a 3M clear bra?? Or should have put one on prior to delivery of the car. Chips are part of the car life though.......going to get some chips at some point in the car life. 8 meant to be driven not really a museum piece.

I had the same problem with my WRX, if you sneezed on it the paint would come off.
I ordered some touch up paint from a Mazda dealership and also ordered the Langka repair kit today for my RX8. Anyone else used this, and if so, how were the results?

I've used Langka. It's certainly better than simply blobbing on touch-up paint by itself—but you can still see the chips. They're less visible, though. If I get many more chips I might just bite the bullet one day and have the hood/front bumper repainted—and then drive immediately to the 3M clear bra place.

yeah. Low hooded sports car + too many idiots in SUVs=paint chips all over. Some kind of clear bra protectant is the way to go. It's similar to the stuff that is in front of your rear wheel wells.

Mazda has never been able to paint a car. Every original paint rx7 I see looks like dogshit unless it is black. Many white 2nd gen rx7s have entire areas of paint peel off in sheets or chips 1-6" in diameter. Red 2nd and 3rd gen rx7s turn pink. My wife's 99 millenia which has seen mainly interstate driving has paint chipping and clear peeling in spots on the hood, roof, and mirrors.
In contrast, every GM truck I have owned has had excellent paint for it's age, with no peeling clear or chipping base color.

I'll second that.
I've owned two RX-7's and currently own a '00SE Miata. While the paint didn't look bad new, it is thin, it is not durable and it chips easily.
I don't know why the RX-8 would/should be different than any of the other Mazda models in that respect.
Mazda paint quality is certainly not one of thier good points.

My front has chips all over it. It sucks. It does not help that Oregon that use gravel on the road when it snows. Even after the snow melts the gravel is on the road for at least another week.

Winter is the worst
This time I'm doing things differently. I just got my BN '07 8 in March and plan on garaging it from November through March. No driving the 8 during winter; I have my old Explorer for that.

I think the paint is pretty decent for oem paint job. I have 7k on my 8 and there are a few small chips on the front bumper, but living on Long Island its impossible not to have any chips. All I have to say its a 100x better then Nissan's paint. Between my Spec V, and two Altimas my family has the paint is terrible. Even trying to wash it was a horror story. I dread it whenever My mom ask if I can wash her car for her. The paint was actually one of the big reasons why I stayed away from Nissan.

It might not be the paint quality that is the problem. It could be the method it's applied with, or the amount that is applied. As with any paint project, preparation is key or the finish will not last.
