Mazda Rx-8 Upgrades?

If one had the money to do so, how much could they upgrade their Mazda rx-8 in mph without looking like a racing car? I mean is it possible to make a Mazda rx-8 with over 1000hp? Just curious for ***** and giggles.

Does that 1,000hp include engine swaps? If so, yes, you can.

If it doesn't include engine swaps, then no, you can't.

I don't know what you mean by "upgrade their Mazda rx-8 in mph". MPH is a speed measurement. You could have a billion hp, and if the car isn't moving, it's going to be slower than kid on a tricycle.

Yep, interesting. Has anyone on this forum done so? I mean who could afford to.

I meant have a faster Mazda rx-8 more in tune with the supercars of today. Even though yes its not a supercar.

Done what? An engine swap? Yes. There is a whole subforum dedicated to the many that want to, and the few that do.

Besides doing an engine swap, I am quite curious on this topic.. Obviously there are much larger engines(three+ rotors) or engine swaps that have been created for track setups, but with infinite money to spend on the two rotor 1.3L, I'm curious with all of the best upgrade to date what the two rotor could produce. That is.. with all other necessary improvements to chassis and so on to handle that kind of power.

And of course disregarding the 50/50 weight distribution and all else. This is strictly how much HP could the two rotor produce before its
A. No more room under the hood
or
B. The two rotor cannot handle the amount of power produced without basically blowing. (Considering this is a perfect engine with perfect compression to begin with)

"No more room under the hood" is an odd comment, since a 2 rotor engine is still a 2 rotor engine, it's size isn't increasing at all.

So far, the highest power that the Renesis has achieved was i think 512hp, if I recall correctly. And the engine apparently didn't last more than a couple hours. More than ~300whp and the engine's lifespan is hugely reduced. More than 350whp and the engine's lifespan is almost certainly measured in thousands of miles, not tens of thousands. I describe why in the beginning of this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...rx-8-a-233937/. It's a matter of thermal abuse and restricted flow due to the engine design. You can't bypass these problems without making it an entirely different engine.

There are 2-rotor options that can make significantly more power, but they are inherently engine swaps, since they are not the 2-rotor that came with the RX-8. So you can't swap in a 13B-REW without it being an engine swap...

The Renesis 13B is good to about 350whp with careful tuning and build

The older 13B's have more potential

We have a 13B drag motor that makes 1000+ HP on methanol. It runs low 7sec 1/4 miles.

The stock transmission will last till about 400whp if you are careful ( I just shredded 4th with mine detuned to 425)

The axles are good to about 450

So...basically anything over 400whp and you need to start swapping out everything else to keep it from braking

Not to mention that you have to completely redo the fuel system and ignition etc for that power range

"No more room under the hood" I meant by the restraints of the engine bay. For example, adding a pettit supercharger, hell throw a turbo in there with the sc. There's only so much one can fit in that confined space. I'm just wondering how much hp the two rotor can support before the design fails. Which you're saying ~350 and the design can no longer handle it

There is great info in RIWWP's suggested threads here, but I also suggest you should pick up this superb , extensive and detailed 170 page book that goes over what has been done and what can be done to build "Maximum Horsepower & Reliability into Mazda's 12A,13B and Renesis Engines"

Best price for it is at Amazon.com.
