Mazda is sure doing a good job of making the RX-8 feel cheap!
When I first got my RX-8 which was 9 months ago a lot of people were wondering what kind of car is this and how much it is. The RX-8 felt like a million bucks and was in the ranks of an S2000 as a head-turner. Now in my area Mazda is lowering the price like crazy droping it down to 36 grand canadian and giving up one-year leases for 399 a month!.
Now people are seeing the RX-8 as just "another car" as anyone can afford these. Now I see a damn RX-8 everywhere I go and it doesnt feeel so prestige anymore.
Well thats my rant, hopefully I can get rid of it by September and get a 2000 Vette.

Have fun with your vette. On a drive yesterday afternoon around Calgary I saw about 8 vettes and no other RX-8s.
But yeah, it does suck how many discounts are out there now for the 8...I almost feel ripped off...but then I go for a drive and forget all about it :D

Think of it this way:
Mazda sells 100,000 8's = they keep it around and make it better and better
Mazda sells 10,000 8's = Mazda kills the car...WHICH would be VERY SAD to me...

I just think of it as a great bargain. Which it is.
So is the Corvette, but I certainly don't think it has much if any more prestige in the eyes of other drivers. They're a dime a dozen around here.
Usually the Vettes around here are slushboxes, driven by middle-aged women with big hair and middle-aged men whose hair has migrated to their chests. It's not an image that I would want to adopt, but to each his own.

You might as well consider any car in the 60k range and below to be considered common. If you want to be different, I would recommend building a kit car if it matters that much to you. It is either that or make a lot of money and buy a really expensive car which just happens to be one of the reasons people justify expensive cars anyway. A vette is hardly uncommon. Evan a 5 series BMW is pretty common around here.
For Mazda to try and NOT sell cars seems counterintuitive. I still feel pretty good about car no matter how many I see on the road! I say the more the merrier. It means more tuners and more parts and lower cost. I can only dream of an aftermarket like the Mustang has.

Minda, not to be rude, but that's not a very good reason to buy a car. Buy a car because you love the car. And whether you like it or not, there are a ton more Corvettes on the road than 8s. It's not exactly an "exclusive" car to drive. However, if you're looking for a faster, 2 seat car, I can understand. The 8 is neither cheap nor common- a Corolla is cheap and common. I'm not sure what you are trying to prove with your post, but it's not reflecting well on you.

Why would you buy a Mazda if you wanted a rare and prestigious car. I could recommend the FD RX-7 if you don't mind a maintenance nightmare. If I were you I would look at a Lotus Elise, if you don't mind driving around in a go-kart (an attractive one, though.) They're even common in Colorado, as are most of the under $50k "cool" cars like the STi, Evo, Vette. Rare cars are at least 10 years old now. Like a Supra or RX7 or Z TT.

I dunno...down here in jersey I had my rx8 for a lil over two weeks and I've only seen ONE other RX8 since then that was parked at a mall...
I can drive down my street and point out at least 5 vettes parked on the side.
Either way..if I saw 20 rx8's every day it wouldn't make the car any less fun to drive

i see once very rarely around here. lately theres been a titanium one going by my place, someone in the area must have bought one (i live off a major artery which is the only access from that part of the city to the highway). other than that one, i see one here at work once and a while (owner seems to be a nice guy)
even if they were as common as civics, id still get one, love the car :D

Why go to a 2000 Vette that is probably 5 years old? Doesn't sound very "prestigious" to me. If you are worried about being too much like someone else, go out and buy some aftermarket wheels or modify your suspension.
If you don't enjoy driving the car anymore, then maybe you should trade it in.
I still have people walking up to my car at the gas station to check it out. I still get tons of "nice car" comments, for whatever that is worth.

If I were you and you wanted to have a car that stood out, go ahead and get the Greddy Turbo kit and slap a badass body kit on it and some new new wheels. That way you can achieve what you are evidently looking for, either that or go buy a ferrari if you really want to stand out in a crowd.

where in canada do you live? I live outside of toronto(Brampton) and rarely see any on my drive to downtown toronto every single day.. The most i've ever seen in a month is about 6 - 10.. but regardless i enjoy seeing other 8's since I can never really see what it looks like while on the road..
oh I also have over 26 000km in less then one year so it's not like i'm not on the road!
