So it's inelegant and unrefined?

That's one crude looking car. A five year old kid must of designed that box.

I love it.

It's overt, muscular, sporty and incongruent...that doesn't mean it's unattractive...i think it's incredible...that's why i bought it...not all "good design" is elegant and refined. The RX8 flaunts itself. It's design expresses it's intention to be a revolutionary sports car. It proclaims it's uniqueness. The DB9 is a refined and elegant sports car. It's design is bueatiful, mating performance and asthetic. Looking equally at home tearing around a track, or taking the wife to dinner at the country club.

Elegant and refined is what the Europeans do, but the japanese and americans aspire to, with a few successes...calling the 8 E&R is either a slap in the face to some very talented designers in the EU, or a misunderstanding of the car's design purpose.

Not a minority here either.
I like them as they are.

So you want all red?
Just think, if Mazda did the all red or similar to the 6, we'd be crying for clear or smoke aftermarket tails.

I bought a baseline, so mine didn't come with tail lights. My next mod, however, will probably be these......right after the fuzzy steering wheel.

Is it subjective then? Does it have to do with luxury?

What cars would you say are E&R in everyday traffic?

When I think of elegant and refined, I think of a big Mercedes sedan or a big lexus, with the wood grain interior and the like.

While the Rx8 - especially the fully loaded ones - is fairly upscale looking, I don't think of elegant or refined.

I suppose they are the perfect words to describe the evo right?(haha just kidding ike)
I'm afraid I will excersize my right to disagree with you good sir. And I am still waiting on what it is that you actually like about the 8.

(not that I would really use them as much as say, sporty and perhaps....um...expensive.)

Can't disagree more. At first, I wasn't particularly crazy about the 8's tails, but they've really grown on me. I love the little notched "wings" inside with the red LEDs at the corners. Just nifty, and different from anything else out there. Plus the fact that the headlights have the little "wings" too just mates the two well together.

I also don't think this car LOOKS elegant/refined, but it sure as hell DRIVES like it is. When I look at it, I hear the theme song to "Speed Racer" in my head. Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer Gooooooo!" One of these days I'm gonna mimic the cartoon, strike this goofy pose standing next to my car and have the wife take a picture.

That's what I love!

When I'm at the track it looks like I'm following a bunch of 8's.

Then when I pass them I realize it was an S2000.

And who says those things are fast.

Well said. What the G35C is to the RX-8 is what the Gallardo is to a DB9 design wise. Both look great, but the design of the Gallardo is hardly elegant and refined.

I think the smoked look is ok. These may be a bit darker than I would go.
