The only thing I can think of (compared to Nissan) is that they are waiting. The 350Z started really getting "hyped" in February and was finally being deivered in September. About 6 (+ or -) months before its release date... makes sense I guess, car won't be finalized until it is very close to production, and I don't think the RX-8 is all that close to production right now.... so doesn't make sense to get the word out that early.
Only problem is that means we are more than 6 months from seeing this car... that puts us around April/May at the earliest, adn I am not sure I can wait that long.
I think they will really promote it as the release date gets within a reasonable distance... I hope so!!

Until Mazda commits to an "official" production schedule and release date, I doubt we will see much else. No doubt there is a high level marketing plan, but when you have to coordinate product and marketing it all has to move together. Promotion, advertising, brochures, and everything else involved in a major marketing campaign need to be consistent and more than anything accurate. Hard to do that when we really do not have a "final" product.

I agree, we really need to get a few, actually a lot, more pictures. It's like almost being able to reach out and touch the darn thing. So close and yet so far. Gimmie some pics in any color other than yellow tho.

Given they are launching Mazdaspeed proteges and the Mazda 6, they've got their plate full this fall. It's pretty ambitious and they don't wan't to mess up these launches. The 6 is critical for Mazda right now, and has a huge advertising budget(See EPSN pigskin pick-ems and NFL commercials this winter) Look for more attention to be paid to the "8" about the holidays. In the meantime, let the R&D guys refine and work the bugs out, as much as it hurts us having to wait.
Hey Donny, go through the RX-8 pics forum.

Yeah, it's too early. You'll burn people out on it before it finally gets here. This is normal with any product launch, because you have to time it right, to get the best exposure when you actually have a car to sell.
Someone already mentioned the 350Z car. That wasn't "hyped" by Nissan themselves until the car came out. Only then did they go with commercials, provided test cars to the magazine, and did other stunts like offer VIN #00001 to the public via an online auction for charity (ended up selling it for $95k, getting some exposure for that, which even reached THIS forum).
Timing is everything...
