merchant's tire wtf?
When I had my 8, I once went to merchant because I needed an oil change.
And they came back to me with....
me: 'i need an oil change'
him : 'year and model?'
me: '2004 mazda rx8'
him : 'oh, we don't do oil changes on those cars'
me: (confused) 'why not?'
him : 'they are considered exotic'
me: 'ok'
Then I called the same place for an oil change on my evo.
and they said it wasn't a problem at all.
I usually do my own oil changes but just get it done at random places whenever I dont' feel like it.
Are they discriminating me?

DIY oil change isn't really for me and my dealer is 2 hours away - so I too choose a shop of convenience. After two satisfactory oil changes at the local Jiffy Lube (I prefer pit instead of lift) I encountered a different crew on the third trip. The first winner peeled my engine cover off by lifting one side - doesn't work too well, but he was able to force it before I broke his arms. Fortunately he didn't tear the grommets off the back.
Second winning comment was, "Uh, this is going to take a while - you've got some kinda skid plate under there we gotta take off." It took me a minute to realize they wanted to remove the front under-body protector. The guy in the pit somehow overlooked the drain plug and decided all that needed to come off. Fortunately, I got to him before he got his rachet set.
Grrr. They're banned. Already lined up a new shop for the next oil change. Guess I'll have to stay in the bay with this car.

adj.
1. From another part of the world; foreign: exotic tropical plants in a greenhouse. See Synonyms at foreign.
2. Intriguingly unusual or different; excitingly strange: “If something can be explained simply, in a familiar way, then it is best to avoid more exotic explanations”
Both apply to the RX-8

I took my car to the Paintless Dent repair to get a door ding fixed. As I was discussing the work with the owner, I asked him if he knew anyting about the car. His replay was "Yes, I know that you shouldn't shut them off when they are cold" then he said, Don't worry, all my guys know it.
Sweet.
By the way, they did a fantastic job.
