a custom midpipe will run you around 250 installed and you will definitely have a CEL because the O2 sensor wont be attached to the cat..

im running a custom mid pipe with a borla catback...sound is really nice...not too loud unless you make it loud...

the flames will come on any car that has no cat...because you will run richer..
the smell is like napalm in the morning..

you will get an increase in whp with an AEM, midpipe and catback on a NA car...prolly 10-15...ive seen it on a friends 8

much more whp on an FI'd car

yup, the intake and exhaust allows the engine to breathe a lot easier.

well im gonna get the midpipe with the resonator seeing as i dont want a loud exhaust, but it will free up a lot of hp, but not quite as much as just the midpipe

oh, and the people i have talked about who had one, said that gas mileage actually increased with it, so if you want better mpg, you could look into a midpipe

Get the supercat- less smell/emissions, and no CEL. But be prepared for it to be loud if you have Greddy, I have racing beat and it really pairs well with it. The smell really is bad sometimes though.

well the midpipe with the resonator is a lot cheaper, and i think it has an O2 sensor bung, so why would it throw a CEL? and does anyone know what size the piping is on the corksport exhaust? I dont want to go from stock headers, to a 3 inch midpipe or cat, to a 2.5 inch catback.

Cut the flange off in front of the catalytic convertor and before the silencer. Then weld in a straight pipe. Bwammo!! You have a high flowing exhaust that doesn't sound any louder than stock.

enough to where you would feel it, freeing up the exhaust in the 8 seems to have a lot more impact than a intake or cat back. it would probably make up to 10-15 hp with a good airfilter, that way your engine breathes easy

it is one of the best bolt on mods you can do to free up hp, other than flywheel, lightweight wheels, and a couple others

all these new people, so focused on shooting flames. what has the 8 stooped to?

I have a mid-pipe, but I only put it on the day before I head to the track. It is loud as hell, wakes up my whole damn neighborhood, gets ****-eyed looks from cops, smells really damn bad, makes the inside of the car smell, leaves soot on the *** of my car, and really drones after about 20 minutes.

But for the sound at WOT on the track, and the free breathing, no heat trapping weight savings, it is worth it for the track. i can't imagine leaving it on all the time. At least not with my exhaust. With the RB exhaust maybe, but it is still very raspy and almost obnoxious. and I don't really shoot flames once the car has warmed up, but on start up, when it is running a little rich, there are little fire *****, but no flames. and I am glad, I don't want to melt the *** end of my car.

You obviously do this regularly, just how do you go about it? Is it difficult and how long does it take you?

Getting the bolts off the first time is the biggest pain...

Takes less than 1hr provided you have clearance...

would you recommend the midpipe with the resonator to a daily driver? or should i pay the extra 50 or 70 bucks for the supercat

Depends on your level of comfort with the stink...

Shes a stinky beast...if you like a "civilized" car...get the cat...

I dont really care about it...and I kinda like the smell...takes me back...but its definitely not for everyone...

I have no idea what a resonator would do for my car, or any car running a midpipe. I don't' really care about it though, and am not going to try it.

as for the swap out, I usually take the Friday of a track weekend off, and do my install that morning. the car has to have been off for at least two hours. after two hours the cat is down to a temperature that can be handled. yes, the first time you loosen the stock cat bolts is a bitch, I stripped the end of one of mine, and ended up just cutting off the end, grinding it a little, and re-threading the end of it. No problems since. I have the process down to a science now, From the time I start lifting the car, it takes me less than 40 minutes. I only come out from under the car to get the mid-pipe. I know which tools I need, and where they need to be to expedite the process. And since I already have the car up to swap brake pads and do a nut/bolt on the suspension, it really does not add all that much time to my routine.

i still stand by my original statements. a mid-pipe is not for a daily driver. not only is it loud, but it is not emissions legal, even in states that don't test emissions. I only leave it on as little as I have to, for the benefits of the track. For a DD, I would spend the extra $$ on the RP Supercat. On the Borla exhaust, the only aftermarket one I have heard it on, it sounds bad ***. It even sounds good on a stock exhaust.

chetrickerman - not sure plugging in the O2 sensor on the resonator will stop the CEL...since its actually supposed to be plugged into the Cat...that question might need to be escalated..

screw it, i will get the supercat, but i want to go with the corksport exhaust, and the supercat piping is 3" and i believe the corksport catback piping is only 2.5". Im worried about if that will effect anything, cause a free flowing exhaust makes a happy engine

Your going to throw the CEL...no matter what you do...over time the CEL will disappear and then reappear...but its just the light...its still there...

Get the supercat...you wont be disappointed...

2.5 is all you need for a N/A...you will only need 3 for FI...
