Mirror replacement

My Homelink mirror assembly is being replaced, along with my driver side mirror assembly. Both have odd/annoying rattles. My question is for those that have had their Homelink mirror replaced, do they remove the factory glue (that holds the mirror to the windshield)? I'm a little worried that the replacement glue might not hold as well!

But, I figure they'll leave the stem/glue and simply snap on a new unit...

Thanks,
FS

I can't speak to the homelink but I had my driver's side mirror replaced and it was pretty simple. Unfortunately the rattle is still there (just not as bad). I think it's the crappy plastic backing on our mirrors that just rattles when I close the door.
You getting the side mirror replaced because of the noise???

My homelink was replaced just over a year ago for rattles. I'm fairly certain they glued a new base on. I haven't had any problems with it coming loose, though I still have an occasional rattle.

Argh, yes. I've had this rattle for almost a year, and it gets worse as time passes. I cringe when i close my door.

P.S. Check the west fourm for the Irvine thread--I'd love to assemble a simple get together!

Did they have to glue a new base on because it is a whole different Homelink unit? I would really rather they leave the factory glue...

Is your rattle caused by vibration/cold temperatures?

I am tempted to take off the back plastic cover and line part of it with some weather stripping to help absorb some of the rattle when I close my door.
Off to check the West forum I go....

My Homelink mirror rattles as well. I checked Finishline for a TSB on this but was not able to find one. Is there a TSB for this (is one needed)? If not, and still under warranty, do I just bring the vehicle into the dealer and say _____ is rattling, please attempt a remedy?

Thanks!

Yea, but some dealers will refuse rattles such as the mirror. Just ask around.

I don't know for certain (never really looked closely), but I don't think there's any reason why they needed to replace the base other than they had a new one sitting in the box.

Yes, at first it did get much worse when it was cold but eventually it just rattled non-stop. I'd pinch the mirror and it would go away but it'd just be back 5 minutes later...

Wow, I have the same homelink rattle! I got so tired of it I put some double sided tape on the top of it, and it has worked for about a year now. I didn't know that some dealers would replace it under warranty!
