missing holes for license plate
so today i finally get my custom plates. as im taking off the dealer plate holder on the rear, i notice theres only 2 screws, both for the top row. so im thinkin that the dealer gave me 2 less screws. but when i took the holder off, to my amusement, theres only 2 holes, wtf? did my dealer forget to drill the 2 holes for the bottom row? or does everyone else only have 2 holes also?

Yes, the rest of us only have 2 holes also, and there are quite a few other cars on the market with only 2 holes for mounting the license plate at the top. Not a big deal.

Here's what I did to keep the plate from maybe rattling around: I got a license plate frame and cover. Then I went to Home Depot and bought a pair of 1/4" nylon plugs that come with screws. They're about $.88 a piece. Then just popped the nylong plugs into the bottom two holes, screwed the frame and plate together and then mounted the whole thing on the car. Cheap and no work involved.

I did something similar -- self adhesive rubber pads near the bottom mounting holes on the back of the license plate. No flopping around and no scratches. I have a black plastic frame around the plate, also, so you don't see empty holes in the plate.

I too lamented the absence of the bottom two holes on the RX-8 because the plate does rattle when the trunk is closed. Right before purschasing the RX-8 I bought a Jaguar X-Type. Same problem with only two holes in the trunk lid and same loud rattle when closing the trunk. This has been constant source of irritation for my wife who primarily drives the Jag. I will follow up on the tips above for stopping the rattling. Nonetheless, it would be better if manufacturers went back to the four hold license plate mounting for US spec cars.

I wondered about it too, but my theory is that at speed there should be little turbulance around that area to rattle the plate. I do like the idea of sticky bumper pads though. I'm gonna add those this week.
