Model RX-8 Cars

AutoArt makes a nice 1/18 scale model for $50. I got mine from diecastfast.com, here's a titanium one for you...

I'm waiting for them to make a black one to match my real car.

Fujimi makes a 1/24th scale kit (kit# ID-105). The interior sucks as it is right hand drive and basic in the extreme. Really not woth the effort. I plan on just paying attention to the exterior and blacking out the windows with a very dark tint. I hope Tamiya does a nice rendition of it.

But then, Fujimi kits are usually use as the basis for modifications. I am still planning on putting in the moon roof using the one from another Fujimi kit (Spoon Civic). There may be a way to make your own left hand drive dash, but I do not think it worths the effort.
I just got my hands on another Fujimi kit over the weekend. That one has metal parts in it for the body kit! Another good addition to my model kit collection.
Finally, the chance for Tamiya to come up with its own RX-8 in the near future is dim. I am not into those kits Tamiya came up with lately. (I do own quite a few of the R32's Tamiya offered in the past).

The AutoArt version is incredibly good. Some of the little things it has:
1. It has the front seat belts attached to the doors like they are supposed to be.
2. The sun visors fold down
3. The steering wheel turns the wheels
4. The engine cover comes off.
5. The exhaust has the flanges and all the components it is supposed to have.
6. The car is carpeted nicely
7. The Lightning Yellow color matches my car almost exactly
8. The rotorary engine makes 238HP on my microdyno! I wanted 247 but 238 is pretty good.
It is a sweet model. I paid $45 for the car at my local dealer and was pleasantly surprised with the excellent quality.

Word of caution don't try the same thing with the trunk. It is not designed to go any higher than the stops.
