Mods and warranty
Hey everyone, I drive an 09 VR R3 an recently have had the nodding bug come over me. Can anyone shed some light on some simple mods that don't void your warranty? I mean if you do mod, what are possible repercussions? I appreciate anyone shedding some light on this for me.
Thanks, look forward to seeing you all on the streets

Read this.
It basically means that if any mod you do to your car cannot void the warranty on anything other than that specific part, unless that they (the dealership/warranty provider) can prove that the mod actually caused any kind of failure of other parts, i.e. they would have to prove a CAI caused the engine to fail, and they couldn't void an engine warranty due to suspension mods, to void the warranty on said failed parts.
I am sure RIWWP will chime in and better explain it when he sees this thread.

Awesome, thanks for the fast response. Another question, and I know it may sound childish, but how can I make the car sound just a little bit more badass without spending tons of money and without voiding the warranty. A full exhaust is not an option. Are there any drop in mods that would do the trick?

K and N drop in air filter, Racing beat Ram air intake, and a catless mid-pipe, you could always swap back for stock if you were worried about the warrenty, as it is an easy bolt on. Spending money on an exhuast and CAI will gain not gain much HP.

What other mods are out there for S2's? I've been searching around the forums for a topic butcant find any. An exhaust is no longer out of the question, so possibly an exhaust, intake combo?
I'm REALLY new to the modding business and I'm trying to find more information.
Thanks for the replies so far, how difficult would you guys say that the mods listed above are?

Hey guys. Do they have an Accessport now for that series???? That would be a great start. As far as more aggressive sound, I have a BB exhaust and it does the trick. I have the REVi intake w/ ramair and love it. Not incredible HP gains out of this car though unless you want FI.

Super easy, if you have some mechanical ablity, and still fairly easy if you don't. It's all bolt on stuff, in order to install the duct you must remove the bumper, which is really easy as well, there is a DIY for it.

Dirt can you please point me in the direction of that post? I searched for REVi install, even just intake install and I couldnt find it. I'd really appreciate it.

its on the website and if not, they send you instructions. Its very easy, just dont ruin your mesh screens that come out of the stock intake. You will need at least one of them in the new setup

I don't know if there is one for the install but I was refering to the bumber removal, there is also a good one on how to remove the stock airbox. I don't have the intake just the duct, but it is an airbox similar to stock, so I would assume the instuctions would follow as such: Remove maf from housing and disconnect, set aside in a safe place. Remove stock box, replace with the Revi, reinstall MAF.
Regardless, everything I have ever gotten from RB, has come with good instructions.

I appreciate all the responses and I'm happy to say that I think my first mods will be the REVi and the ram air duct I'm actually really excited because, like I said, I'm really new to this stuff. My step dad has installed a brute force CAI on our old Excursion, so hopefully we'll be alright installing it ourselves.
Hopefully I can save up enough money afterwards to put in the RB exhaust as well, I've fallen in love with that combo.

He's as bad as Can
Just something to keep in mind about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, its just words on a piece of paper. If the dealership declines to do warranty work you can't call the police. You will have to pay an attorney to file a civil lawsuit against the dealership / Mazda. You will then have to hope the jury has 12 car enthusiasts on it.
Based on the number of S2 sold the number of mods available for it are low so I don't see you doing much to it. Keep in mind that many sites list parts for the S2 that in fact do not fit. If you find something you like ask someone here first before you purchase anything.

OP, If you are really worried about the warrenty issues, buy the mazdaspeed CAI.

no. and what makes you think that? an AccessPort is only usefull with proper tuning. this person couldnt even find basic intake/exhaust information on his own, what makes you believe he would find proper tuning or even be able follow Jeff's directions for his service? it'd end up being a very expensive obd2 reader

if your a do it yousrelfer than than mods will not be a problem. If you ever need to take it to the dealership for anything major than just put it back to stock before visiting them.

Burdern of proof is on the Dealership, anyway. They would have a hard time proving that a product that had that much R&D and that many buyers could have CAUSED the engine failure.

jesus christ, how many times has this been hashed out already.
legally the burden of proof is on the dealership.
in reality, they can deny you all day till you take it to court. if they are willing to go that far, in reality, you will likely have to show that mods werent the cause of failure.
/end of another repeat thread/argument. if you have any more doubts/questions, go read one of the many other threads on this here, or hundreds of discussions that 2 seconds on google will show you
