More woes from my Rx-8

knew I should not have bought a used car. but Alas I could not pass up on this beautiful car.

so today I attempted to pull out of the garage when Reverse just didnt want to stay in gear. it kept poping out of gear as i eased out the clutch. SO now i have to hold it very firmly in place the entire time, before i did not have to do that... so that's the first woe-is-me.

Second.. I started to drive the car in first ger and noticed a very loud rattling sound... sounded like it was coming form under the hood?.... shift to second.. no sound... UNTIL i stepped on the gas.. and that annoying rattling sound is back... shift to third and stepped on the gas.. same noise... shift to 4th-5th-6th NO sound at all...

The sound is like a loud aluminum rattle... crunchy sound.

and oh yea.. my Defrost button finally cracked off. so I have no button there anymore just a LED light fully exposed lol.

SO MAZDA! here I come, I hope all of this will be checked out and be covered under warranty. last time i called in for the defrost button they said it was not under warranty. somone please prove them wrong.

i will most likely get my tranny fixed or atleast checked out. unless someone here know or have experienced what I attempted to explain.

thanks!

Hmm, tht sucks. Looks like you bought an 04. If its under warranty any repair work should be covered.

Are you pushing down on the shifer **** while shifting to reverse?

Sounds like a dumb question but that might be why it's poping out of gear.

the rattling noise seems to be normal, but i know it can be heard when the car is just sitting there idling. i haven't heard it (or tried to pay attention to it) while the car is moving. if it isn't normal while the car is moving, then yea. get it checked out.

I don't hear any rattling from my transmission, just a "whirrrrrring" sound. Moreso when I let off the clutch.

Here is just an opinion, the rattling sound could be a loose heat shield or something like that.....

The whirring sound is normal but not the rattling when driving and gear popping out.

sounds similar to a problem i had when my transmission went up. i lost 1st and reverse totally, then finally lost all gears except 6th. turned out that the mainshaft retention ring was destroyed.

Actually, the rattling is normal on the rx8...I BELIEVE it is caused by the ports opening...and usually occurs from 4k - 6k rpms...but ive heard it at 3.5k as well.

Regarding the popping out of reverse: did you make sure the shift mechanism/gears were fully engaged into reverse? Sometimes I can't shift into reverse the first try, I'll have to let up the clutch pedal and push the pedal in again before reverse gear can be properly engaged.

Occassionally I'll have to do this a couple times. (I think all my cars have been like this though)

i bought the car at 14K and only put on 3K in since october.

when i first drove the car, it was smoothe and all you heard was the smoothe sound of the 'whirrrring' sound. this is a very crunchy-clank sound ONLY in 1st,2nd, and 3rd gear.. and it only makes the rattling sound when accelerating. 4-6 has no sound at all even at the same levels of RPM's.

to answer about reverse... yes i have pushed down and over and into reverse. before when it was in reverse.. i would let out on the clutch and it would still be engaged. NOW when i let off on the clutch it will pop out of gear.
