Most crap you've put in your RX-8
A little while ago I drove from Wisconsin to Atlanta for a summer job and realized I managed to get an amazing amount of crap in the car:
1. 2 cat carriers, one "jumbo" (about 20"x20"x30"), another medium (about 15"x15"x24"), each occupied by one cat.
2. 1 normal sized, hooded cat litterbox (about 20"x20"x24")
3. Fender '59 Bassman Reissue guitar amp (about 24"x24"x10")
4. Desktop computer with full size monitor and desktop printer
5. 1 large duffel bag (about 30"x14"x10")
6. 1 medium airplane carry-on size suitcase (about 20"x14"x10")
7. 1 medium box (12"x14"x20") full of junk
8. 1 Gibson Les Paul in a hard case
9. 2 Fender guitars in gig bags
10. 1 plastic grocery store shopping bag full of toiletries
11. 1 plastic grocery store shopping bag full of about 50 CDs
12. 1 plastic grocery store shopping bag full of about 35 DVDs
13. 1 regular bookbag full of notebooks, papers and books
14. 2 suits in suit bags
15. 2 medium sized bags of cat food (both about 3/4 full)
16. About 25 medium-large books scattered about
17. Pillow
18. Box with unbuilt 1/32 model of a P-38 Lightning (very big model plane)
19. Iron
20. Box for Iron full of model paints
21. Medium jug of laudry detergent
22. Small (8") fan
23. 2 large bowls for cat food and water
24. A few other small loose things like towels, a box of wheat thins, etc.
Even with all this, I still had very good vision out the back window, maybe lost 2-3 inches at most. I could also see out the passenger window just fine. So I could have put in even more crap if I wanted to.
2nd place was 12 "banker's boxes" (about 15"x12"x24") full of documents. Probably heavier than the list above, but it was only for a few miles.

I don't remember the details of all the contents, but I moved from Atlanta to Austin a year ago. My company put me up in a corp apartment for 3 months while I sold my house in ATL. I managed to fit craploads of stuff in there; like I had moved out permanently. My Wife was amazed when she saw the pile in the kitchen and then watched it go in.

Carried a 36 x 40 sheet of window glass in the back last week. Had to have it diagonal though, so every time I went over a bump it would shudder like its about to crack. That was a scary ride home !
On a related note, I move south --> north 3 years ago with a miata packed to the brim with crap. Its amazing what you can fit on the parcel shelf in those things, and in the hidden tunnel connecting the trunk to the pax compartment.

Lets see... we've had 3 1 week+ vacations in my RX-8. Each time we packed:
Myself, My wife, and daughter (child seat).
2 suitcases of clothing.
Air mattress and bedding.
3 pillows, including a body pillow.
Beach blanket and umbrella.
Diaper bag and 3 packs of diapers.
Box of wipes.
Laptop computer case.
Bookbag full of books and movies.
Emergency road kit and First Aid kit.
24x18x18 cooler full of food.
16x10x12 lunch cooler full of snacks.
4 extra pairs of shoes/sandals.
3 Jackets.
200 CD case.
Video camera case.
Camera Case.
This essentially filled the trunk, and the footwells in the back seats, as well as the large cooler was placed in the unoccupied back seat, with a pillow to keep it from moving around.
Me and my wife both had our seats all the way back, and there were no obstructions visible over the window sills in the back seat.
I'd say we did alright.

TWELVE cases of water from costco, 35 bottles a piece. Thats nearly 5 hundred bottles of water. Three per back seat, six in the trunk, barely. Plus my friend in the front seat. Car felt SOOOO sluggish :-)

Alright, just kidding - no harm intended. Seriously though;l I use the wife's car for trips like that. Yucky.
I couldn't avoid a bad load one time though. My RX-8 went into the body shop in November with summer tires on, then wasn't finished for 6 weeks. I *had* to use the snow tires to get home (70 miles one-way) so I put 4 snow wheels in the rental car and took them to Rochester. I had to bring the summer tires home in the RX-8 *and* I had the toddler in her car-seat in the back. I forget if the tires were arranged 2 front, 2 back or 1 front, 3 back, but it was tight and even with the tires bagged the car smelled like tires inside for two weeks.
I often travel with all three daughters. At those times the trunk contains two dance bags, my laptop bag, first aid kit, exterior detail items plus coats (in season) and a cooler or two. Then, after dance class we go shopping and a full-sized cart of groceries gets swallowed up by the trunk.
