My wife have a Jetta TDI 2002, her car was allways in the garage, until i told her when i get the 8 i think your car is going out......don't ever do this mistake..lol, i got my 8 saturday, and sunday we was in Home Depot buying a storage building for the junk in the garage so both cars will fitt in..., so since i was in Home Depot i got some conducts for the central heat and air, so i put a vent to the garage and some seals for the garage door, and perfect every time i just don't want to used it i just close the vent and done...every one happy....

 

Mines in the garage. Now that we had 6 in of snow and it is -20. It will be in there till it warms up. I will drive the Tundra in the snow and cold. It's been babied also, this is it's first winter and it's a 2000 the old Honda is gone.

 

I've always kept my cars in a garage or under a car cover (except in the rain). I'm not so much worried about paint oxidation these days... as long as you wax the car every quarter. But, my concern is with interior heat and eventual discoloration. One won't really notice it for the first 5 years or so. But, seeing that I keep my cars for over a decade, and they still look like the day they came home from the showroom... I'm convinced keeping the car out of the sun when not in motion is a good thing.

 

My 8 replaced my mom's Mercedes Benz's place in the garage. It's a two car garage but we have a pool table in there. Tough luck for my mom's car.

I wish I had a 2-car garage.... But, the MG gets the garage. New cars are built with MUCH better materials and paint than the older cars, so I know that it will be fine outside keeping my truck and wife's SUV company, and the old MGB gets the garage. The poor thing wouldn't last a year if it stayed outside.

 

A pool table takes a spot in your garage & your mom's Mercedes stays outside? Whoa! Your mom must really be one gracious lady!

 

Shoo, I'm almost thinking I should get rid of the dining room in my house (or 174.3 inches of it) and just build a ramp up to it from the alleyway to park the RX-8 in, I mean seriously, how often does a single guy use a dining room?

. . . and measuring it with a tape measure just now, apparently it would fit. Hmmmm . . .

 

You could always just throw a tablecloth over it. Now that would be dining in style!

 

Mine is garaged, though really keeping it outdoors would not require me to wash mine any more often. The rain doesn't bother the Zaino, but driving in the rain makes the car filthy. The garage does keep it warmer in the winter (no scraping!), cooler in the summer, and protects the paint from UV (as does the Zaino).

 

In garage with OEM cover. The interior has been covered with a white sheet, and a moisture absorbant canister placed on the floor. Moth ***** in cup placed in engine compartment. Battery has a trickle charger designed for storage attached and fed underneath. Full tank of gas and 5 lbs over in each tire.

.....sleeping until spring.....

 

Mine stays in the garage. When the weather calls for it, I take it out and drive her. Not in the snow though. I use my 4 wheel drive SUV for that.

 

after buying the pool table we found it too heavy and too dificult to put in the house. we had no other alternative. and yea she is one gracious lady. haha i love my mom!

all mama's boy antics aside. doesn't keeping a car garage keep it in better condition over all, not just the exterior?

 

No garage for me, so I got a $25 car cover from Pep Boys - fits like a glove

 

Why no cover in the rain? That's the main reason I got mine...

 

Are you in north Fl?

 

If the car cover isn't truly waterproof it will get soaked inside. If your car remains parked for days under those conditions it can mildew or the wet cover laying on the paint over time can cause discoloration of the paint.

 

This thread reminds me of something I heard a comedian say once:

"Only in America will you see people keep their $30,000 car in the driveway because of $3000 worth of junk in the garage."

(I admit to be being guilty of that at one time.)

Hmmm, that's disconcerting...my cover ($25) is "water resistant" - I assume this means it repels water to some extent. Should I not keep it covered in the rain? I'll be pretty dissapointed if this thing doesnt keep my car dry...

 

Why did you put mothballs in the engine compartment?

 

Mice love dormant cars. They are most at home under the hood with all the wires to be chewed and sound insulation to make a nice nest from. Turns out they hate moth ***** even more. Its cheap insurance.

 

How long does the moth ball smell last after you take them out...mothballs always reminds me of old people for some reason.

 

daily driven, no garage but when we go somewhere on it a park only on the edge space and far from every car

 

No garage and the bf's bikes are in the shed. Since it will be my daily driver (hope to pick it up on Friday!!!), it will be parked outside at work as well.

I'm looking at getting a car cover for home.

 

Anyone know the best place to get a car cover?
