I know this thread is meant for mocking, but i think its pretty lame how its "not cool" to bitch about the poor fuel economy.
Its okay to compalin about the "lack" of power but not fuel because it's not what you are interested in.
Considering everyone says this car is more of a joy to drive than a road rocket, whats wrong with an extra 10 mpg so that we can "enjoy" driving the car more, with fewer gas station stops?
If the rx8 is to survive it needs a gimmick more so than the rotary by itself, and since fuel economy is on everyones mind, I think an rx8 that gets 35+ mpg (without a significant increase in price) would be the best approach

I had my car at an excellent dealership yesterday for scheduled maintenance. While waiting, I chatted with a rather engineering-savvy manager. He ventured his opinion that the rotary engine has pretty much no long-term mass-market future in the USA, due to the engineering trade-offs involved with fuel consumption and especially emission controls.
Obviously please do not ask me to name the manager or the dealership.

- I can appreciate its elegant engineering
- I can afford the gas
