I'm interested to hear abit more from peoples experiences. I've read a good amount about it on this site and the large report.
1. Does buying the 192 over the 231HP version give a slightly better MPG?
2. Does driving slower and less rev like, give any good returns?
3. What could you get in one straight highway/motorway journy with no stopping and pretty much constant speed?
4. Does clicking on cruize control affect MPG as it does in other cars as it's usually inefficient?
Cheers

1.) If there is a difference, I wouldn't think it would be much of one.
2.) The lower you rev, and the less you floor it, the less fuel that gets delivered to the engine, so in retrospect, would give better MPG. I wouldn't recommend it all the time, though, as the Rotary loves to be in the high revs.
3.) I've heard people getting upwards towards 30 MPG. With a great engine and everything working well, I don't see how the 25 on avg highway miles can't be possible.
4.) No clue on this one. Maybe an 8 guru could answer.

2) Yes, I drive all city and if I keep the revs below 3K to 4K I see and increase of about 1.5 MPG.
3) The best I have heard on the Highway with cruse control on is 24MPG more normal is 18 to 22 MPG Highway.
4) Yes.

It's not technically BAD for the enging to keep it under revs, it's just good to keep the carbon out of the engine. Really, I'd say if you don't want to rev high often, do it once a week. WOT to red line and call it good. You might lose a whole 1/2 a mile to the gallon, but that's not much when you think of the rebuild costs to your engine :P But this is all up to you. You'll get good miles out of the engine without redlines, it's just a safety procedure a lot of Rotary guys like to hold up.

This is my seventh rotary Mazda and it gets the best MPG of all of them. I have a '04 A/T and it is rated slightly better then the M/T. I normally get 16-21mpg depending on what type of driving. As a curiosity I tested it once and have never checked the MPG again. Here is what I was able to get with the cruse on. These were all done on a flat hi way and at least one half a tank of gas.
55-60mph 29.5mpg
60-65mph 27.5mpg
65-70mph 25.0mpg

There is nothing that anyone will say in this thread that hasn't been said in the million other MPG threads. Don't be lazy....just do a search. I just searched MPG in the thread titles, and it gives 5 pages of threads

Razz is probably right - winter gas will be around 10% less mileage.
I was really surprised when I bought the ScanGauge (it reads out fuel consumption) that the high revs were such a penalty - at constant speed, twice the revs equalled twice the fuel use. I was expecting a penalty, but didn't expect such a hit.

I guess I get about 18mpg with a large amount of that being city driving or cruising around the hills up at 5-7K rpm
Driving slower and keeping the revs down below 4k can get me 1mpg or so better, so I'd rather enjoy myself.
On a straight motorway the best i ever did was 22 mpg and i could have done better if i had been doing 55 (no fun).
Never really played with calculating cruise control mileage
