I realized the other day that when I worry about my gas mileage, I was driving the 8 like it was my Old honda accord. The moment I heard the beep for the redline was the moment I remembered why I bought the car. Price of gas will keep rising and the 8 will continue to chug gas. Good luck my friend. Your thinking about this all wrong.
Think of it like your out with a beautiful companion....Your not going to worry about the cost. Just as long as you have a good time.

If i kept the cruise around 71 on the highway my mileage was around 25. city driving was around 13 or 14. then again, i only drove the car 10 miles once a week round trip to the grocery store. that would have a lil bit to do with it.

Well, if you keep it below 3750 RPM then your mileage will increase. I got 19mpg on my last tank driving like that with occasional redlining. The reason why you want to drive below 3750 RPM is because it prevents the secondary fuel injectors from engaging.

It also depends on your play with the throttle. I'm usually in 6th at around 45 and I barely push on the gas pedal.
Let's say you're doing 55 and you're in 6th but you're stepping on the gas pedal half way down, of course you'd be getting less mpg than barely pushing on the gas pedal while in 5th.

It all depends on how much you're pushing down the gas pedal. The further you're pushing it down, the more gas that's going to get delivered to the engine. as long as the RPMs aren't insanely high, weather or not your in 5th or 6th gear shouldn't matter. I like to, in my RX-7, cruise around town in fourth gear, which sits me at 2-2.5k RPMs. If I went up to 5th gear, as long as I wasn't accelerating ever, I'd be just as good on MPG.

You are a sicko. Some things just aren't right. Seems like you're the **** star.

For the millionth time, i'm not thinking of anything wrong. I will be enjoying the **** out the car and driving it fast. The point i am asking is if its driven slower and less rev - like what sort of mpg can we get. Just because you got a massive C**k don't mean you need to be a **** star dude. In the same way owning an rx8 does not mean you have to drive like a moron in it 24/7. (only some of the time).

When I was breaking in the engine, the best I got on a Full tank was about 230. I shift around 4k as often as I could. Mostly highway driving.

i have been down to 14.5 mpg recently on the 8. its a 2004 with 68k on it. in 2005 i put a cold air intake on it. but still, 14 mpg is terrible. is there any quick fixes anyone has.
also, it has been stalling more and more when coming to a stop, probably tied to the cold air intake. should i take off the k&n fiter, clean that? didnt think that was supposed to be cleaned, but not sure. or is there another fix for that?
