hi, i wanna buy an rx8 and had few questions about the mpg. How much does it cost to fill up the car? And if i were to fill up the car will it last me the whole week or it will require 2 fill up's per wk. I commute to college and i also work 15min frm my house. currently im driving a 99 civic which $15 worth of gas lasts me a week.

15 bucks of gas will last me a day if I'm lucky. Set sail for gas mileage in the teens if you're doing mixed driving like a grandma. I do mixed driving and I drive like a grandma. I'll get 15mpg average if I'm lucky.

I drive about 90-100 miles/day and usually fill up somewhere on the third day. Highest MPG about 21. I used to average 34 with my civic. So if gas is too much of a concern, stay away lol.
In owning this car you learn to have a very non-chalant approach towards the idea of gas (and wasting it). But chances are if you are even asking questions like this, you likely wont like the result. Just weigh out your priorities.

Good luck in College, seems you're going to need it.
All of your questions so far have been sinple common sense questions.
If you are serious about school, then this isn't the car for you right now.

when i start my car, i can hear the sound of liquid moving for a second. then i realize that is just the sound of a gallon of gas being pumped from the tank
i get anywhere from 180-220 miles on a tank depending where i drive. i have an auto but i shifty manually all of the time. if i use the auto, i will pretty much always get 220-240 miles per tank.

My daily commute is about 35miles mixed. I have been averaging 16.5-17mpg. I'll get about 185-200 miles before the fuel gauge reads down to a 1/4 tank. Takes about $35-40 to fill up +premix. Factor in filling up twice a week and cost for fuel alone is enough to make you take pause. Just wait until summer when gas prices goes up. I expect to spend $100+ a week (with added driving to take in the nice weather :D)

Well, I get about 13-15 mpg. I will admit.. I drive it hard at times. I go to school as well. I pay about $43-$45 to fill up. That's on premium. 93 octane. I fill up like once a week or so. I seriously don't drive much.. Work & school. And I'm rarely going out now since I'm recently single. I also have more $$.
I did get 260ish miles once on a full tank once or twice. I had a happy face.

My '09 gets 260 miles to the tank, and costs roughly $45 to fill up from empty.
I pay about $14 more per fill-up than I did with my Cobalt SS, which got roughly 31-32 MPG. Funny thing is that I'm still filling up at the same frequency since the Cobalt's tank was smaller.
Listen to everyone else here - if you're concerned about the gas gauge, do NOT buy this car!

On long trips to So Cal I've gotten over 275 miles before stopping to fill up. On my last trip down south I think I averaged 22 mpg.
It's the city driving that really kills. I've had times where I've only gone 45 miles around town and the gauge moved a whole quarter of a tank. Think that equates to roughly 13 mpg.
Anyway, the EPA estimates appear to be way off, for the city at least.

Why do I always feel like the odd ball? I regularly see around 20mpg (same as my old Jeep) on long highway trips I can see upward of 22 depending how much I speed and so on. Right now with the AEM intake and some coils that are on their way out I've been seeing about 19.2 when I did the math, and about 20.4 on highway trips.

My commute is about 90% highway. I average 21-22 mpg, and got my highest MPG today, 22.5! My RX-8 is an 04 model.
I try to drive between 3-4k rpm, but I redline once a day and hit 5k every stop light. All this is on regular 87 octane gas.

---09, 200-250 a tank... mostly 210---
So true! I live close to where I work but I do not drive the 8 there much. It is the dog-gone city traffic that is so bad... Longer trips with fun saves more gas than tipping around stop and go city traffic. If you do not have a long commute, then have fun. Truth be told, none of of us bought this car to save gas. This car screems HIGH MANTENANCE! So nice to have, but you have to pay for this EyeCandy. It is truely for the lover, no one else understands.
