Mustang vs. RX8
(On the Track) Who would win? Considering no driver errors.
04 RX8 6 speed performance pack- TurboXS exhaust, K & N drop in, AP pulley, Flywheel and upgraded clutch.
VS.
98 Mustang GT- Upgraded clutch and Flowmasters.

Scenario #1
As they pull up to the starting line the RX8 gives an easy 5000 rpm rev.
The mustang proceeds to empty all of its fluids onto the track and realizes, oh, my mom is calling me.
Scenario #2
The mustang arrives, confident, unnerved, bold. As he approaches the starting line he looks over at the RX8 who is still lingering in the locker room warming up.
Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!
....possibly more scenarios throughout the day will be posted.....

*98* mustang gt? those're among my favorite mustangs, the sn95's, but i'll be the first to admit how shi**y and crappy they are. on track, as in on a circuit track, the 8 will easily smoke it. even in drag race, w/ at least a little effort, the 8 will pull away

It always sucks to see such a powerful car with such potential get screwed by developers.

- Mustang in the straights.
- RX-8 in the twisties.
- The winner will depend on the amount of 1 vs 2.

I owned a 96 MGT years back. Granted the 98 has 10hp more than the 96, but they are still basically the same. I remember how it drove...the 8 would definitly stand a chance in a straight line.
Corners? I'm not even going to answer this.

I had a friend in high school that had a blue mustang in that year bracket, I had an 01 camaro at that time, I remember one day he pulled up next to me as we were leaving school. He rev'd as if to say "wanna race?" and I just laughed at him and said "as if you could eeeeeeven hang".
Apparently he thought he could since he had "exhaust work" done on his car. aka new flowmaster muffler, and my car was completely stock, that he would have a chance...Now he has a New Mustang GT and I have my 8. Needless to say we've both out-grown the whole street racing thing and we both respect eachothers cars (I don't really, I think mustangs are terrible, but don't let him know that )

I like the mustangs, but you have to ease into the pedal because with all that torque, you will spin very easily, losing valuble seconds.
I definately wished ford had upgraded the interior, it may have been my choice after the 8.

Late '90's Mustangs had that "chick car" look, never liked them and no amount of horsepower could compensate.
On that little track in my brain, the RX-8 wins against all comers, every time. And looks better, too.

Sorry to say that the 8 would not stand a chance in a drag race. I traded in a mildly modded (Full exhaust w/ no cats, gears, short throw shifter, rims/tires& C.A.I) 99 Mustang GT that would run 13.3's any time in the quarter. And I am not a really good drag racer. Now I have a stock 07 RX-8 GT M/T that I don't think can run a 14 flat.
The track is a different story. This is where the 8 shines.
Not bashing on 8's here beacuse I own one and LOVE it. Just saying that it's doubtful an 8 will beat a Stang in the 1/4 mile.

If it was a 99+ Mustang, you would lose. The 96-98 Mustangs were probably the worst Mustang's made. Pretty ugly and they only had 220 crank horsepower stock. The engines were called NPI which stood for Non-Performance Improved. After 1999 the engines had different heads, intake and cams. The 96-98 probably have a similiar amount of wheel HP as a MT RX-8 but the Mustang will have a good bit more torque.
You have a very good chance at the drags against one of them. They are a high 14 second car stock. At the road course you will take it. You will win in the corners and hold up with him in the straights because of his lack of power.

I found this drag race video on youtube with a mustang vs. an RX8. Sorry the quality is very poor, but the yellow car is the RX8 and the red car is the mustang. Don't worry its not a long video, just a short 21sec. drag. [Understand that the RX8 is also extremely beefed up.]

I also found something that everyone may want to look into. Its kind of pricey, but it gets the job done right. Its the SFR turbo kit, haven't actually heard of the brand before. but looking at the stats and the dyno, it seems very promising. It puts out 326whp. The down fall is the low end torque. You lose so much that I'm kind of iffy about the whole system. Just take a look at it and there are a few other turbo kits on this page.
BTW on the left hand side of the page. It lists a lot more turbo applications for all sorts of vehicles including the mustang.

Its more likely because you are a lot better driver than the other guy. I doesn't matter what kind of vehicle you have. You can drive a car with 2000hp and still lose to a 2 cylinder Smart Car or Honda Fit [not trying to dis either one].
