Mx-5 and Rx-8 could merge...

Eh Idk. It's nice in theory, but I'd always hoped that Mazda would bring the rx back in full force... With 2 doors, 2 seats, and a turbo or 2. Miatas are cool, but I feel that both they and rx's have their own (niche) markets. Combining the two just seems wierd, to me anyways. But who knows, maybe it'll grow on me.

I think this could work, assuming they have rotary and piston options. I'm sure there are plenty of people that would dismiss the car because it has a rotary. They definitely wouldn't want to lose any of their MX-5 sales as a result of that. It seems like planning for that would be the most economical way of keeping the rotary around. It would reduce development costs and the lighter vehicle would help with power to weight ratio, as well as fuel economy. If it's this or nothing, the die hard rotary fans will still be interested.

So many different ways to 'merge the two cars, that any Miata fan and and any rotorhead can find a way that is acceptable. Same skin different motors or same chassis different skin different motors, or similar chassis different skin and top, different motors, etc.
It's possible to merge the two without upsetting the purists in either camp, though they could literally just make it an alternate engine option.

I say they should just wait till they can get the next gen rotary working before doing anything. I know they have a pretty good engine with the renesis but, the MPG, power and reliability stigma make it pointless to do since all it would do is increase the cost of a miata and open a huge world of hurt for Mazda.
The miata is to popular. If they just stuck the rotary in it as an option, i say they are stupid to do so.

I don't know.
The next generation Miata with the Skyactive engine could cover the base and mid-level versions of that car, and then add in a MazdaSpeed Miata version with sharper handling, the newer direct injection rotary engine with the higher fuel economy (in comparison to the current RX-8, that is), higher hp and torque numbers, would make a very balanced car lineup.
Give the car more legroom so that us people who are 6 feet tall and above can enjoy the car comfortably, and it would most likely do pretty good.
BC.

It took me a while to realize what was wrong with that pic. At first I thought it was a bad rendition to the FD, but then I was like....go it!
Interesting pic, but So weird to see an RX-8 with just two seats!!!

You didn't line up the wall on the windows!
That vert looks really interesting. I like it. I think that rear headrest portion or whatever has to extend further to the front.
