Amen to that, sign me up....I would have to say a big no. In life you have many choices, and I choose to drive a wankel. My garage will always house a rotary till they take my license away(do you think by then they will have wankel powered buses?

Mazda made a rotary powered bus at one point. It used a 12A, they did so simply to prove the engine could handle the immense workload.

I voted "Yes". I would still have bought the car.
I have faith that Mazda would still have made a great handling and fun to drive car. Just like most of the other cars in their line up. I bought my '8 because I buy into the sporty/affordable phillosophy Mazda builds into its cars.
I would miss the sweet sound the exhaust makes. And revving the hell out of the engine. :D What satisfaction there is in winding it out and pulling perfect, seemless shifts. It's the same feeling you get from a perfect swing and you hear that ding when the club strikes the golf ball. Or the well oiled snick made by the Campy gear set on your road bike. It's precision. The RX-8 and it's rotary reward precision. And that's very satisfying when you get it right.
Can I change my answer? I've talked myself into "No Flippin' Way"

Oh, and for all the people who would not have gotten the RX8 if it lacked the rotary engine...even MORE people would have gotten the 8 because they were not scared away by the rotary.
a) has never owned one and,
b) has never driven one and,
c) is too much of a wuss to drive an RX-8 anyway! :D
I have a friend with probably 10x my income and a stereo that lists for well over $100K. Last weekend I flew 2K miles to visit, largely because he needed help adjusting the tonearm on his rig. No joke. This very brilliant guy built a hugely successful business from nothing, but he can't adjust a turntable. When I told him I'd bought a new RX-8 he asked, nervously, "It doesn't have that rotary engine does it!"
Some people are not cut out for sports cars. (He drives a Lexus sedan. Way nicer than my Mazda of course, if you like floating around.)
