My 1st long trip
Just got back from driving from WV to Myrtle Beach. I was concerned when I left about comfort and gas milage,,but.....
It was great I did round trip of 1050 miles with no problems, Had plenty of room for lugage, got 24-26mpg and enjoyed the drive ( I think this car has the best cruise controll of any car I have ever driven)
Looking foward to another trip hopefully soon!!!!!

I'm pleased that you had a trouble free drive.
Myself, I regularly take my 8 on short trips of about 300kms round trip. I have the same experience you do. Decent gas mileage (though I've never calculated the exact l/100 km), room for a weekend's worth of luggage for 3 people, passable stereo (missing an mp3 input tho). I actually find it a very relaxing car to drive. Seats work extremely well for me - no fatigue at the end of the drive.

Glad to hear the car is great for long trips. I usually only go about 150miles in one trip when I go home. I'm going to head to Orlando in two weeks and was curious how the car will be for a 6+ hour drive. I doubt I'll see that high of gas mileage because the speeds on the highway are higher on the route I'm taking, but we'll see.

I'll likely be driving to Orlando & St. Petersburg in a few months as well, though I'll be driving all the way from Michigan! It looks like my girlfriend and I can drive there & back for cheaper than it would cost to buy round trip plane tickets, plus we wouldn't have to worry about renting a car while we're down there.
I wish I could just erase Ohio off the map though. **** driving through that state.

Just got back from a trip to San Francisco - first long run with the Blue - no problems, ran two hours or so, stopped for lunch, topped of gas at the 1/2 mark and was impressed by gas milage- very good- seemed to like the wide open spaces. Did not use cruise control because I used to do this route once a month with the 323. had some places where I could open her up and never hit bottom - at an easy 90 let up to avoid tickets - got better milage on the way home because of tail wind and not so much effort to outrun a GT with an oversized tail fin - I son't think those things could be stock - they are big black shark fins that look like they were left overs from a batman movie - I think they produce a lot of drag!
No oil useage to speak of - I brought two bottles and never had to open them. It looks like its going to take less worry than led to expect from the folklore....

Hey you crotch rocket rider!,
Good to see that your 1st road trip went well.
Probably a fun drive through the mountains down 77.
I went to Pittsburgh again last week. My 8 got filthy up there!!
Let's get together maybe next week...
Did you check out the pictures??

I know what you're talking about when going to san fransisco winfree, that whole area around salinas, gilroy and SJ you really fight the wind. I get 34 mpg going up and up to 37 coming back down. (in the saturn)

There was an earlier post on another hread that suggested the spoiler would never be of use on public roads - found it most helpful when doing a Gilroy run - also across the San Francisco Bay Bridge - big trucks were being pushed across lanes - and we just hunkered down and flew.

I also just got back from a nice little 700 mile excursion across ohio and pennsylvania, and i got exactly 23.6 MPG for that trip. Not too bad really, and I couldn't complain myself.
The seats really did seem to get more comfortable for longer trips then i really had expected, and it handled absolutely great through all the ups and downs and twisties of pennsylvania! I couldn't believe how hilly that state could be...
Glad to see that you saw even better gas milage! That's pretty sweet stuff. I'm averageing around 17-18 MPG in the city with mixed driving styles.

I took a nice long trip in mine, the oil light came on, but bought quart while in ohio, dumped it in and she was fine. Great road trip car, wouldn't anyone else drive it thought, Love her too much.

I'm about to do 1000 miles from the Detroit area to Mobile, AL. I'm relocating this weekend. Loading up some clothes and the cat and heading down (stopping overnight in Nashville). I'm glad to see that folk aren't having too many issues with long-haul trips. I've had some interesting behaviors in past vehicles I've owned. This will be my first long trip with this car. Looking forward to cruising the hills as I get into KY and TN.

However, I'd assume that cruising @ 70MPH through the hilly terrain wouldn't require too much downshift action.
Enjoy the drive!
