my 8...a 2 door domestic??

Ok well I put my car in a local show tonight and they put me in the 2 door domestic category...I asked the guy why, because technically I have 4 doors...and its an import, and they were tellin me how Ford owns Mazda now so "technically u drive a domestic car, your with the stangs"...is it just me or is my car still an import regardless of what company owns what? Am I the only one that thinks that was totally stupid? Sry im kinda angry right now lol

btw I got third, which is alright I guess...considering what I was up against

Haha, wth, domestic? Show him the sticker that says 99% of parts are from hiroshima japan. Anyways, Ford only sponsored mazda to come to the US, right? Mazda is not owned by anyone in japan, right? Oh man, sorry to sound stupid too but i always thought ford sponsored mazda but they don't actually own mazda, right? Haha, i'm sounding dumb. Anyways yeah, im interested to see who owns what and what not.

That is pretty stupid, what on there is ford?
Of all the Mazda cars this probably have very little ford influence or parts on it.

Its built in Japan, by a Japanese company...it is a import.

Gah

Its half and half, ford owns something like 33% which in Japan is consider majority. But Ford doesn't really control mazda, they pretty much just share some parts and ideas.

Thanks REmillers for the results. I knew ford didnt really own mazda (relieved *phew*) I never wanted a domestic no offense to anyone. But yeah i'm glad. 33% isnt really majority either...

Has anyone been to www.ford.com lately? Look at the little bar in the middle of the screen that says "Great Products Our Family of Brands"

It feels weird seeing our symbol there.

Ford and Mazda have had a long relationship over the years. A number of Ford and Mazda vehicles share the same parts and/or have similar desins. MX6/Probe, Explorer/Navajo...with that in mind I could understand if a MX6 or something else that was Ford'ish was placed in the domestic catagory, but the RX8? HELL NO. This is clearly an import car and as unique as the drivers that operate them. That guy needs to be kicked in the nuts.

You should have pointed out to him that the Honda Civic and the Honda Accord are both built in the US.
In fact, the Accord offered in North America is designed for and built in North America exclusively.

I guess they put the Chrysler cars in the import category - since it's owned outright by Daimler?

And of course Ford also owns Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin so I guess all those are American too and doesnt Ford have a majority in FIAT which owns Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Maserati in which case FERRARI is American too!

Dumb, stupid car show idiots.

If came in on a boat it's an import.

Did you get a trophy for third place or a picture of a trophy for third place?

Ford does not technically "own" Mazda. They have an approximately 30% share of it. And on another note, the guy that the 8 is a domestic is an idiot.

Actually, Ford owns 33.4% of Mazda, making them the majority owner.

My Dad is a Ford hater and gives me **** about it all of the time...then I told him to meet me anywhere in his S-10...he backed down.

If I'm not mistaken, the S-10 pickups and Blazers contain a whole lot of Isuzu designs and components.
