My car is cursed... and it ISN'T silver

I have a black 06 rx8.

I am a high school student (I know I'm lucky, but I paid for a big part of it) and I was walking to my car to leave school. I unlock the door and open it and notice the wire to my valentine radar (hardwired up the a-pillar under the roof lining) is now hanging in my driver's seat... so I go... thats weird. I grab it to plug it back in... only the rearview mirror it was mounted on has been ripped off.... now I look back and the back seat console(where I keep the GPS and fm transmitter) is open.... guess whats gone! I then look back up at my windsheild, which is now shattered, and a nice big crack going down it. I get out and notice a few other students walking towards the cop and the assistant principal who were actually searching a car. We all quickly figure out that we all got broken into. To shorten it up, when I was in the office writing down what was stolen, the officer walks in and shakes my hand and the other student (my age 10th grade) who's car they were searching, was the kid who did it. They caught him and he is on his way to jail. They got my radar back (thank god!!!!) and I assume everything else. But I can't have it back yet... It's "evidence" WTF?! I don't care, but I asked if I could get the mirror... nope, not yet. So I am driving with a broken windsheild and no rv mirror.....

however they are going to give my radar back... which is good.

He stole a lot of **** from people, ipods, wallets, A LOT. and they found drugs in his car (fun!)

I have a dent in the 8 just by the driver's side handle on the back door (someone opened their door into it). So opps. Going to report that this little **** did it! so get my dent fixed ($100, I got an estimate) and a new ws.

And as I was driving home. it was driving really funny... I pull over, sure enough, my back passenger tire was almost flat... Theres a nail in it.... wasn't this morning, stuck to main roads on the way to school... pretty sure that was them too.
But the lame fix a tire kit they give you came to the rescue with the pump...

oh and a side note, got the car in late september 08.. been hit 4 times. and have a new weird noise after the last accident (just got it back 2 weeks ago) and now this..

CURSED!!!!!

okay, let me start by saying. You're cars not cursed, you're a high school kid which builds up the conclusion you are A. an inexperienced driver to be hit 4 times. and B. High school kids steal things, and it wasn't only your car that was stolen out of.

once your car gets hit by a tank, then come talk.

none of the 4 accidents were my fault, 2 of them when I wasn't even in the car.

and true, they do. But 6 other cars broken into and the kid got caught with drugs and is going to jail... so out of the 300 cars in the lot... chooses, mine.. hmm.. and I live in a town were people are rich as ****, and there new bimmers and mercedes in the lot...

This is why I never parked my 8 in the school lot when I was in high school.

To be honest, security systems don't work really well especially in a high school parking lot. If someone wanted to steal/damage your car I'm sure they would just ignore the siren. If I were you I would invest in getting small cameras and positioning them inside your car at different angles and have them feed into a small computer or something inside your car. This way any damage done to your car is on tape and is easily proven in court.

I'm not sure how this would work, but I've read on a few other forums about people using this set up.

Actually a sr. that drives a Hum-V (the military one ... I know wtf) used to get keyed like 3 or 4 times a year. So he got cameras installed behind the mirror in the side-veiws. (double sided mirror) and caught a guy who did it to 5 or 6 cars in the lot... Might do that... but that is quite expensive....

Motorcycle daily driver. Solves all the problems. GREAT gas millage. Lane sharing for better time to get to work/class. Always get front row parking. (Walmart now has motorcycle parking before handicap!!!) LOL. And nothing really to steal and no windshield to break as well as half as many tires to get stabbed.

My school had cameras covering the whole lot so this was never a problem at my school. I feel lucky. My friends car was hit once we got to watch the video of the person doing it. Pretty funny. Some dumb bitch slid into his car, got out, tried to wipe of the damage then parked 5 spots away. She should've gotten hit and run.

Ya I am going to start parking in staff I think. But we get in trouble for it. Oh well, after all I did get robbed. My school has about 500 cameras. Just none in the parking lot (where the most stuff goes down...) He got caught by the secretary who happened to be coming back from lunch and saw him going from car to car and leaving each with stuff... Dumbass... Oh well, he is in juvi now (4 days too young for real jail, it's a same he would have been someone's lil bitch)....

Well now I am just being rude... but I hate getting in that car now and looking at that windshield.

Literally every month I have had it, it has been hit, and now this month, this happens... wonder what's in store for march?!!
Can't wait!
Oh, yes I can.

You got really lucky getting your stuff back. It's very rare they catch people.

Don't leave your shiny aftermarket GPS and radar detectors visible when you park. Don't even leave a suction cup mark. In this case it probably wouldn't have mattered, but hiding all your electronics and having some tint on the windows really makes it less likely to be broken into, because a thief can't see anything inside. The honda down the street with the aftermarket stereo is a much jucier target then a car with no visible goodies inside, and a blinking light on the dash.

I don't think you're cursed, but if this luck keeps up you could start one.

Well I have tint. But it doesn't matter. the gps and fm transmitter were in the back console. He opened everything. So anything in the car would have been taken. But yes, leaving it in plain view would make it an easier target. But outside the car, it looks like part of the mirror. Unless you knew what it was, you most likely wouldn't think it to be a radar.
Oh well, the kid got caught with 10g of weed in his car and vallium or some drug like that...

not for sure if he is going to jail (4 days to young or something) but he might go anyway.
My dad came home, and is usually like don't get in fights and stay out of trouble, and was like. Beat the **** out of that kid, get a bat or something... He is just so sick of my car getting f'ed up by other people. Plus this kid needs a good beating.

I am not going to do that... I unlike him have morals and respect. But can't say I wasn't temped to drag the blade I keep in the car across his.

Oh, funny thing, a lot of the cars he broke into I know the owners and one of them had brass knuckles ( no idea why...) but the theif got charged for possession of a deadly weapon.... but it wasn't his he stole it... hah. Found that rather awesome.

I think after this incident you should make a hard push with your school to have some cameras installed watching over the parking lot and signs saying that the area is monitored. Get some parents behind you and all the other kids whose cars have been dinged up or broken into and make a push at the administration. There's really no reason in this day and age to not have cameras in the parking lot. Especially when it sounds like your school is in a wealthy area.

If you go to a private school they should put up the cameras fast, if you go to a public they're going to have to go through all the government bureaucracies to get the funds for camera installs.

Good luck. I think this is the best course of action. Take advantage of the fact that you live in a democratic (for now) nation!

If you are looking for an alarm system, get a VIPER. If you have an AT, they also have one with a remote starter and it has a 1 mile range. The range is also good because you get a mini cellphone looking thing that controls the alarm system. When your alarm goes off, this device(usually on your key chain) will make noise/vibrate and it has a digital screen and shows you why it was set off. So even if the perp is ignoring the siren, you should have enough time to run out and scare him off(or beat his ***) before anything is stolen. Unless you leave your wallet and ipod and stuff in your glovey or center console.

I have a manual gearbox... so can I still get one? and How much is it because DAMN that remote sounds awesome.

And yes I am going to for sure make a push to get cameras put up. It was very lucky someone in the faculty actually saw it. We have seriously over 50 in the school, yet none in the parking lot.....wtf...

This is the exact reason you buy a Civic or some other junker.

These are normal things that happens to cars between high school and college.

Why do you think insurance is so high for young people?

Nothing worse than comming back from college or high school only to see someone hit your car or broke into it.

Sorry it happened but..................

You did say you left the radar on the rear seat.

Huge mistake.

Don't leave nickels and dimes laying around in plain sight or a bum will break into your car.

Keep it clean on the inside.

You could always spread dog shi!t all over your car that would probably keep most ppl from breaking into it.......

No, the radar was actually mounted on the rearview mirror. But It didn't matter, he broke into all the cars around mine as well. He got in my car and opened all my compartments so no matter where it was he would have got it. I could have possibly avoided the windshield, but his dad wrote me a check for $300 and it has already been fixed. The cops also agreed to give me back the mirror... because I couldn't see behind me.... but I've gotten nothing else back yet.
