Exclamation My car was flooded by *Insert family member here* !!!

Not to rip on those who unfortunatly had thier cars flooded by someone in thier family or a close friend but, I keep reading these stories and isn't this the sort of thing you should make clear to your wife/parents/brother/sister/friends/etc?! I know my family is going to get a 2 hour lecture on how to not flood the engine before I let them within 10 yards of my keys!

My sympathies to all those who's babies have been flooded. And don't worry I'm sure It'll happen to me one day as well...

You think you're going to flood one day? You mean, by waking up and going back to bed too quickly?

People should be instructed from day 1, before they even get a drivers license, about proper vehicle care.

Part of proper vehicle care is NOT starting your car, moving it 5 feet, and shutting it down. Be it piston, rotor, turbine, etc.. this is very very bad to do to an internal combustion engine.

I wonder if the same people who flood their engines also have trouble maintaining proper tire pressures and getting their oil changed *without* getting a reminder in the mail from the dealership.....

I told my husband about 10 times....he did not believe it would happen. So, last week I was towed in on a flatbed to the dealer...I was not a happy camper but now I guess my husband will know better!!! You really appreciate your car when they give you a crap rental from Enterprise. A POS Mitsu Lancer with 7 dents, 5 scratches, hub caps scraped up and a dirty interior.....I called the main office and complained and they gave me a free weekend rental sometime. I hated my car in the shop!!!!

True but come on how realistic is that? We all occasionally just need to move a car a few feet or go to the local store down the block. I think the issue is with most cars if you "occasionally" do that it is not a big deal but with the RX-8 it can be reason to call a tow truck. I look at it as more of a concern then a major problem because I can not imagine all these Mazda dealers who have to move these cars short distances all the time not complaining big time if they keep flooding them. Of course if my car ever floods I might feel differently.

My biggest concern is a parking valet at a restaurant......

So far, when we've gone out where I know there is a valet, we take one of our other cars - just don't feel like even having the possibility of the "fun" of a flooding problem.

So far, a small trade off for the incredible fun of driving the 8!

I don't understand the Valet parking concern. I thought as long as the car is warmed up you can drive it short distances and turn it off, even if the car has been sitting for a while. The only time you need to warm it is when it is sitting overnite and the engine is bone cold.

I valet at restraunts, casinos, and concerts all the time without flooding problems..

What fun is buying a car that looks so great if you cant pull up to the front and have people envy you?? Or you have to walk 3 miles to and from the restraunt with your date... It's also harder to pick up chicks.. you'd be like "wanna check out my ride? " and then you say "Can you give me a ride because I had to park way back because im afraid the valet will food my engine"

SOme people say hotels are a bigger deal..

I guess I don't have that problem 'cause I don't go to pretentious places with valet parkin'g

I bought the car for me, not what other people might think of me for drivin it. And I wouldn't let a valet near ANY of my cars with a 10 foot pole. If you ain't making the car payment or sleepin' with the guy who is, you don't get to drive.

The flooding issue with valet parking is where the cars are stacked like sardines and the attendants jockey them around to get the cars out. Possibility for multiple starts without warmup. Might not happen too much in the suburbs but would be a problem in big cities.

It all depends on where you valet your car... I would valet my car anywhere that has a large parking lot that can handle all the people who are coming in so they wont have to jocky my car... I also rather pay 15-20 more dollars for a valet lot that wont have to jockey my car.... Im in NYC a lot, so you can imagine the valet costs :-(

Wow I didn't know you could flood the 8 too! Ok at least i dealt with it many times before when i have my RX7. I guess it's cool that I know how to make the car run after it.. even tho it is a B*tch.
