My car is STILL in the shop!!!

Hi,
I thought you might be able to help me here. Monday the Service Advisor told me that Mazda was ordering a new motor for my car. I have called every day to see if it has arrived. No motor. Friday (yesterday) when I talked to him again, he said he has no idea when it will be there and cannot seem to find an answer to this question for me. He doesn't even know where the motor is coming from!!

Initially he told me that I could come pick up my car (monday 6/22) and that he would call me when the motor came. I thought that was stupid, since he had my car and its driving like ****. Why would I want to drive it into the ground? So, I said, "no you can keep it so it will be there when the motor arrives." Why waste time? I am on vacation until the 23rd of July, but I don't want this guy to know that, because I think he will just put my job off until the last minute.

Isn't Mazda owned by Ford now? Are all the motors still made in Japan? or are they manufactured in the US? Is there someone else I can contact to find the answers for myself? Do you know any of the answers to my questions? Am I being unreasonable? I miss my car!

No, Mazda was never owned by Ford. They HAD a majority share, but they recently sold most of it off to settle their own debts.

All motors are made in Japan, but when you get a new one, it's coming from a plant here in the US. They give you a Reman.

You're pretty much at their whim. You could TRY contacting corporate, but I'm not sure how far that's going to get you...

I'd miss my car too!

The question here is: Are you getting a NEW motor? Or a reman motor? Likely you are getting a remanufactured motor, not a brand new motor. If it is a reman, then PM <name removed to protect the innocent> on here, he works at the reman plant and can get you more information, depending on what information you have that he can use to look for which one is yours.

He has said before though, that since dealerships make alot of money off of an engine replacement, sometimes dealerships will hold motor orders till the end of the month or the beginning of the next month to see if they will meet their financial goals or not. If not, then they do it before the end of the month. If they will, they may hold it till the next month to get a head start.

I am not saying that this is what your dealer is doing, but it is possible. Most dealers will not acknowledge that they do it, but I believe I remember <previously mentioned innocent person> saying that they still consistently have an order spike within a few day of a month change.

I don't think PMing <name removed to protect the innocent> would be a good idea. He has said he is going to lay low, since he does not want to jeopardize his job in any way, shape or form. I'd assume it is just the dealerships trying to meet their goals, tbh. Not much you can do about it but wait.

Are you within the bumper-to-bumper warranty? If so, they should be providing a free loaner car. Insist on it. The cost of that might induce them to move faster.

Hey thanks very much I went in yesterday and Mr. Service Advisor said "tomorrow!" I think he realizes that I am not going to stop bugging him. Hoping to have my car back by Thursday or Friday. Happy Independence Day to me!!!
