My car won an award this week!
The service writer at my dealer gave my rx-8 an award on having the car with the most difficult problem to fix this summer. I am so proud. The culprit-bad A/C. They seem confident after three days with it that they should have it fixed by tomorrow if the parts show up. So the evaporator valve was bad way under the dash apparently. Not bad for the fourth time it has been in for it. All I can say is that I hope it gets fixed right this time and I am becoming rather frustrated with the car.
On a side note:
I have become rather unimpressed with a Mazda 6 4 banger auto after I have been driving one as a loaner for about a combined 7 days now. Pretty weak on power and understeers heavily. Basic transporation at it's finest.

I suspect my expansion valve has issues as well. I think it may have gotten debris in it during assembly (metal filing, oil, who knows) and that explains my fluctuating AC performance - good one day / bad the next.

I want to win the award for the person who every few months says he's about to get his RX-8 and then shuts up when he doesn't...
This month... really this time... I'm not kidding...

Update
I went to look at the car and see where they had it parked etc. yesterday and I couldn't believe how much they had to gut out of it. Both front seats were out, the center tunnel plastic cover was off, the whole dasboard was removed. All that was basically left was three pedals, the guts of the steering assembly and some wiring harnesses. I will be amazed if it is put back together and there aren't any(at least more) rattles or scratches on trim pieces. The new expansion valve part is supposed to arrive today, and even if it does I would be surprised if they could get it put back together by the end of the day. If not at least three more fun days with my 6 loaner. Maybe I will wash and wax it this weekend.

until the day I die
At least you got a Mazda to drive around; my dealer gave me a Daewoo (!) for the day. I was embarassed. I pulled in the lot with an blue RX-8 and leave with a dirty, gray Daewoo.

Part didn't show up Friday
As of Friday the evaporator part still didn't show up so I have been without the car for this Labor Day weekend. So if the part shows up on Tuesday(I'll be surprised at this stage that it will), it will probably be ready by Wednesday. Let's hope that it actually fixes the problem this time. So at this stage, the car has been in four times for the problem and I have been without the car for about 12 days. Under our state lemon law if a car has been at dealer 4 times or more than 30 days for a significant problem(I would think non-functioning a/c would qualify) it would be determined a lemon. In all reality, I just want my car back and I want the a/c to work. I love my RX-8 and don't want to drive anything else, but if they can't get it right I will not have many choices left.
