My fender bender

My fender bender
Last week I was a small accident in a parking lot. I think it was my fault - in any event, I'll be paying the damages (or my insurance if it's considerably more than my deductable).
I was wondering if anyone had similar damage to me, or otherwise has knowledge of the cost to expect.
Someone backed the corner of their rear bumper into my passenger door. There is a circular dent in the door approximately 18 inches in diameter - it extends up around the door handle but the door handle itself is unaffected. The sheet metal around it is creased in places. The door gap is distorted. The door and window function normally.
Thanks in advance.

I am getting an estimate, on Friday. Until then I just wanted to hear from any other people who possibly had similar damage or had a door replaced.

It's unlikely they will replace the door but maybe a new door skin. Repair depends on the talent or lazyness of your body tech. I would recommend finding a shop that pays their techs by the hour and not flat rate to start. The reason is that it sounds harsh but at flat rate if they can cut a corner on the repair of your car because it will get it done faster and make them more money, thats whats going to happen. Flat rate allows a tech to get paid for doing work they didn't do meaning the estimate says it takes 3 hours to fix your door and the tech does it in 1 but still gets paid for 3. usually around here dealerships are on hourly rate due to corrosion protection warrentys. You can bet that you will have little or no corrosion protection in the repair area if you choose a flat rate shop and it will be full of body filler if the tech is unskilled. And make no mistake, your dealer will tell you that if it rusts and they find a repair done in that manner too bad for you. The cost of the repair will depend on time and rate. Here, it sounds like I would go ahead and make the repair rather than do a door skin, and assuming the anti intrusion bar is not damaged, I think about .5 for the door panel removal, probably 3hours repair time, say 1.5 for various removal and reinstallation of door handles, locks, belt mouldings, mirror, for paint. Then refinishing and shop supplies. Here I don't see it getting done right for less that $700.00 You can get a ball park on the dent itself by the rule of every fist size dent is .5(30mins) add them up on your door. Take into consideration body lines(more money/more time) creases(work hardened and tough to fix/more time). Sorry for the long post but lots of considerations. Remember that I live in Canada and the US is usually less expensive than here....I think. I know that if I trade in $100.00 can. I get $1.93 US so yeah. There you go.

my pass door was damaged, it had a dent, oblong shaped, about 1" wide at each end and grew to a 3" wide in the center, it was about 22" long andabout .5" deep. The sheet metal was not torn, just dented in. The door handle also was pulled away from the body a bit and was scratched.
The inside of the door was pulled off, the dent pushed out and smoothed, then the door handle was pulled off, fixed and smoothed and reinstalled, the door was painted in a 3 step process (sanding, primer, paint, clear). I chose not to blend the door, that would be extra, but it would match the car better.
You would never tell anything was done to that door, other than the fact the paint isnt a PERFECT match, cause it wasnt blened.
I got a deal as the guy at the shop is a friend, it was 700 for everything with tax and all. I would have been about 800 if it was blended and most shop would likely charge about 800-1000.
