My girlfriend made a comment on my car
It was actually something that made me feel even better about the 8. Last night some stupid STI owner tried to race me while my gf was in the car, being myself it did bug me a bit, but I let it go. I just think it's really stupid for me to try and race an STI anyway. When we got home she said, you know one of the cool things about the 8 is you can take it out for any night, even if you have to get all dressed up and fancy and still look good. STI and EVO8 owners would look pretty stupid going somewhere all dressed up and walking out of their cars. Going to any fancy place in the 8 you still looks good. Our cars are so worth the money, just makes me happy to be an owner. This reminds me on how stupid my aunt is. She's a typical old asian person, telling me how her daughters bf BMW 325i is better just because it's BMW she said my car is a Mazda how much can I really pay for one of them. I guess she didn't know my car almost cost me 40k.

haha, Right on!
Yea I drove my 8 for my high school winter formal and it worked just right. Gave the car a good waxing and made it shine. The good thing about the 8 is it isn't all agressive. There is also a luxurious side to it. I agree with you, "our cars are so worth the money."

This is true (what your girlfriend said). I was looking at the STI & EVO, but decided to get the RX8 because of that reason. It looks really good whether you are 18 or 35. You can drive it up to a nice restaraunt, and while you might not get the front spot, you won't get laughed at either like if you had the EVO & STI. I had a Mustang previously, & I did get the comment that it was a bit boy racerish for me. When I was looking at the STI & Evo my friends (who are pretty much all in BMW & Mercedes) were looking at me like I was crazy. They said it was a good car for me when I was like 18 but it was time to grow up. They like the RX8. If it is all about straightline speed we would have never gotten the RX8. It wasn't all about that for me though.

Who the hell cares what the car you look like drives, as long as it feels good driving it. Why is everyone so caught up in what other people think of them? Jesus christ, I could pull up to a 5 star restaurant in a broken down skoda, get out, and own the place. Don't be so shallow people, you'll enjoy life a lot more.

actually yeah, they'll tell you to move your car to the far end of the parking lot, and WALK to the said restaurant
i can see myself stepping out of my 8 dressed in blacktie apparel and be perfectly fine. Evo/STi/SRT-4 would definitely look out of place in those situations :o
vain yes, but true :o

I actually respect and like the EVO and STI all great cars for the own reason, just like th G35, 350Z or any other cars. I love cars and any car (scion XB) :p people say it looks like a box I agree, but we allo own an 8 here and i'm just happy how I spent my cash. Anything wrong with that? ![Cool](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/cool.gif)

That's true. I wear a suit to work every day and I'd feel pretty weird stepping out of an evo in a suit. Maybe an sti but it still can't beat the 8's class!

I would enjoy the 8 more simply because it is more enjoyable to drive. Not because it produces some illusion of class, taste, wealth etc for passers by. I was perfectly fine going "high society" in my rusted, oil burning 88 jetta for years. It doesn't matter. Any pre-judgements people may have made of me based on that were either a) quicky dispelled or b) they miss out. More often than not it was a).
In today's society, cars, most of all, are a terrible judge of a persons 'status'. Anyone can have any car they want, it's just a matter of how much they are willing to sacrifice. My father was telling me the other day how he found out that he could lease a gallardo for like $2k a month. 2k a month for a 180k car is pretty decent and certainly you don't have to be rich to do it. Hell, I could do it when I graduate if I live in the rents basement, or some **** apartment, and eat KD every day. That's exactly what a lot of people do. Sacrifice equity to ride around in a car they can't really afford. But hey, they could pull up to a nice restaurant and people might think they are somebody. Of course, when they walk by, or open their mouths, you'll quicky see who is clawing for acceptance.

Old Money.. New Money
Sometimes it's the *New Money* folks that are impressed or have to impress with status symbols. There's a great story here in Atlanta about Arthur Blank, the co founder of Home Depot and owner of the Falcons. While most of the players ride around in high end luxury and exotics, Arthur drives a 90's big Buick. He's from *old money*. Sometimes it's just from being secure within yourself.
