My Grandpa wants to drag race?
My Grandpa use to have alot of drag cars back when he was younger. Apparently he was pretty well known for it. But anyways he just bought a 87 (I think) Comaro IROC Z. He asked me if I wanted to drive about 30 min. to the drag strip and race him with my 8. Ive never raced mine or anything but I looked on zeroto60times.com at the quater mile time and the 8 was faster then his car. He's a big American car guy so i'd like to be able to tell him my Japanese car beat his. ![Rollinglaugh](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/rollinglaugh.gif)
His is completely original/stock. Who do you think will win this? It's all for fun so please don't say anything about how the 8 isnt meant for straight line performance, I know I know.

You should be able to take him pretty easily. I'm guessing you have a m/t tho? I know the 8 is not a drag car but going to the drag strip is a fun experience. You should tell him after you race that you should go to a road track and drive too. lol. IMHO american vehicles really slacked off in the late 80's to late 90's

BTW, I am allowed to make such wisecracks because I am an "old man" myself (but not yet a grandfather) and I used to build the musclecar/drag-racing stuff. The difference was that when I drove the RX-8, I immediately understood it's strengths and weaknesses as delivered from the factory and gave it a ton of respect (obviously). ![Wink](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I am pretty sure that IRoC is not going to induce vomiting/thrills/chills on a road course anytime soon, unlike the RX-8 will, to my passengers.......![Lol2](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/lol2.gif)

When I bought my 8 back in late 2003, I worked for Ford on the assembly lline and all my UAW brethren harrassed me about not buying a Mustang. Even my own father....... that is, until I took him for a drive through the lakes-area by his house in MI for about 45 minutes.
The case was thus considered closed.![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

If the IROC is running right, and he's experienced at drag racing, it might be closer than you think.
Make sure Grandpa isn't hiding a bottle in the spare tire well.

This caught my attention because we just sold our '86 IROC for 250.00 yesterday (it's been parked in the woods for the last 10 years)!
When I try to compare my beautiful '05 Shinka to the IROC it's like matching up a ballerina with a square dancer :^)
On the drag racing though Grandpa's reflexes are probably slower and that can make all the difference on a strip.

Newbs wait to see green, and wait waaaaaaaaaaaay too long. LOL
You can lose almost second doing that... R/T won't add on the timeslip, but he'll still be in front at the line. This a grudge match... who's car is technically faster doesn't make a bit a difference. It's who wins.
