My new RX-8 arrives in 4-6 weeks?!
Greetings gang. I have read the threads here with great interest. It appears that you are all as passionate about the new RX-8 as I am. That is great!
I find it interesting that you are all worried about getting your cars in late summer or early fall. My car is due to arrive in 4-6 weeks. Mine has been "on order" for 2 years now. Mazda flew someone from Japan to a Mazda Club event 2 years ago at Virginia International Raceway to show off detailed plans for production of the RX-8. The details were staggering. It was clear then that they were going to produce the car. We loyal Mazda enthusiats were among the first to get undeniable proof of the plans. We all had to sign Non-Disclosure info, but it was great! Peter Farrell and others were on hand for the event too. At that time PFS made it clear that they would make aftermarket performance products for the new RX-8 once the car was produced. It was a great session.
Since then, I don't think a month has gone by that I haven't pestered the good folks at Mazda, but most of us at that first meeting were given "first crack" at new cars. I confirmed last week with my dealer that my car (red/black) is due to arrive in just 4-6 weeks. It should have sport package and all the options. I will let you know if the timetable proved to be accurate, but in reality, we have all been waiting over 2 years, what is another few months.
As far as what I paid, it was MSRP, as should it be for all of you. While some dealers are seeing fit to make huge profits due to demand, I think Mazda would take a pretty dim view of that strategy given their global price strategy. I may be wrong, but I think that Mazda is more interested in loyal customers like us than profit hungry dealers. Keep in mind the best deals and quickest builds are going to be in the small rural dealers that only get 1-2 cars but have not sold out their allocations yet. I was able to jump 9 month ahead in line on my 2002 BMW M3 once I discovered how the system worked.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to participating in this group. My current car is for sale to make room for the 2004 Mazda RX-8, 2005 Mustang the new upcoming Acura NSX 2nd Gen.

Where exactly did you get your 4-6 week timetable from? The folks at Mazda directly or...?
My dealer has told me that the car will arrive first week of July. At this point I've just closed on a job and would hope that I could get the car before that but I do require a month so that I can save my pennies and get everything in order.
Hope you're right though

Interesting thought: if the dealer 'test' cars are coming before the July timeframe, maybe preorders will get a chance to test drive before our cars arrive?!
I suppose this is more of a dealer question than a Mazda question, assuming the dealers do get a car ahead of time...

Welcome, G-man. I too have been waiting for well over 2 years. Really going back to the RX-Evolv and RX-01. My deposit was put down early January of 2002. I haven't been involved with any clubs since leaving the St Louis area more or less back in late 2000. If nothing else your experience and the cars you've owned make a nice statement that you are anticipating the arrival of your RX-8 as much as you indicate. Same here, only without the ownership experience of the cars you have had the pleasure of owning. It would not surprise me if some folk with connections and /or $$ get their RX a bit sooner than the rest of us. That said, I think it's still pushing it for yours to arrive in 6 weeks, based on the assumption that they aren't beginning production of US models until 5/12 and that transportation will still take 4 weeks after it's completed. It's obviously possible. And not a huge difference between the mid-July delivery I now expect for mine which is about 10 weeks out. And, I think, most of us have learned to not worry about it too much. As I posted earlier, I think it's nice they resolved any production issues learned when making the first Japan market cars before starting MP2.

If Mazda were to do it at all I would guess it would be the year after the Acrua NSX comes out. Honda was supposed to make the new NSX at $55,000 but was unable to make it happen. It now appears that the new NSX will be $130,000+. That is a huge mistake. If Mazda senses a need and Ford doesn't think it will cut into the new 2005 Mustang too much, we might see an NSX killer RX-7 by 2006 or 2007, but likely not before that.

Sorry
I hate to be the bearer of bad new but there is no way that you wil be getting you car in foru to six weeks. If you are in the first Internet Order group, figure on Mid-July and that is not absolutely in concrete. It sould slip to the end of the month. I share this with you as anothe rperson axiously waiting. It will be hear soon enough and worht the wait.
