Is my perception of RX-8s a reality?
Hey guys, I'm currently car shopping and the RX-8 seems to fit my criteria. Although I did some research and it sounds like a lot of people are having issues with the engine "flooding", I believe that it's a misconception and it really has to do with the ignition? Is it really a big problem with these cars? Is everyone encountering this issue? If this car is gonna stall out on me and I'm gonna have to call a tow truck every other day, then I will have to take the RX-8 off the list of potential cars I'd like to consider. Honestly, is this a car I can just hop in and go, or do I need to take extra precaution every time I drive this thing? There are so many good deals out there, and it almost seems like the RX-8 could be a good bang for the buck.
Basically, I want to know if these cars are as troublesome as some of the people on here make it out to be. Thanks guys

Flooding - this has been resolved & it's not an issue anymore.
Ignition - known problem in 2004 models, later models may also be prone. BHR's upgrade is a viable solution.
The RX-8 isn't a piece of ****, it won't break down on you. It's a great deal, for everything you get there is no car in comparable price range to match it.

I now have owned my 8 for 3 years, and have driven in all 4 seasons.
I have not flooded it once, even when I moved it to wash it.
The only thing I do differently with this car than any other car I've owned is check the oil every 600 to 800 miles or so.
That's it.
See my signature for any further details about the (absence) problems I've had with my 8.
...the best car I've ever owned, period.

I havent flooded mine, but I'll never take the chance.
I won't move my car unless I can get it warmed up to normal temperature before I shut it off.
Also, as others have said, oil is very important, get it checked and changed and topped up OFTEN.
Don't take it over 4k RPM until it's warmed up.

Interesting, BHR's upgrade you say? I'll look into that right now. I am aware that these cars burn some oil, and I have no problem checking it every few hundred miles. I do keep high maintenance of my cars, I guess my biggest fear is that I'll be stuck in the middle of no where due to the ignition. But I'll look into the fix. Thanks for the info, it is very much appreciated.

I will cite this later, I will admit I was exaggerating about sending the car off to the the dealer every other day lol.
Well my choices are...
'04 RX-8 6spd with 33k miles for $13.9k
or
'04 350Z 6spd with 30.5k miles for $14.9k
I have always loved the Z and I will finally be able to get my hands on one, but doing a little more shopping around I discovered that RX-8's are relatively inexpensive.... Plus I love the style more on the 8. Ohhh... Decisions, decisions... Im really leaning toward the 8 because it is much more practical (backseats).

You see, this is the side of 8 owners I want to see I want to be convinced that the 8 is truly an all around great car for everyday driving! Man, you guys are really convincing All I want is a car that handles like its on rails! I had an '03 Eclipse with full suspension, traded that for an '02 Z3, and then finally traded that for an '07 CR-V... I know, WTF right? Well I moved to SoCal and needed something to haul all my **** across the country, and plus the CR-V gets 28mpg hwy lol. **** that, I miss the feel of a sports car... RX-8 here I come?

Freakin Lightning Yellow But If I can knock the dealer down and leave with the car for $13.5k out the door I would learn to love the color. It already has the factory ground effects on there (not mazdaspeed) and leather interior so its gonna enough for me.
