My RX-8 just got better!!

My RX-8 just got better!!
Well it’s been about 3 months and 3000km since I bought my Baby and I must say I have been very satisfied.
One of my very few complaints with it was the ride comfort. Very hard, rough and noisy. I knew that the stock tires were most likely to blame but I expected this since it was a sports car. So I decided to inquire for some new tires. One of my friends recommended the Korean branded Nexen. At the beginning I was very skeptical because they were also half the price of say Michelin or Pirelli. The tire guy highly recommended the Nexen for ride comfort and holding. I looked them up in the internet and did not find any negative comments.
So today I said what the hell and I went and replaced my stock Petenzas with these Nexens. They did not have the stock size 225/45 18 so after searching this forum I put 245/40 18 front and back.
I could not believe how much the ride changed. All of a sudden it became smooth and quite, very German car like. There is virtually no road noise up to speeds of 120km/h. It rides much nicer over the rough roads that we have here in Cyprus and at town speeds it is plush!
My car has now become a quite grand tourer
I have not tested the road handling yet but I will keep you posted. So far I highly recommend these tires, especially due to the fact that they are less than half price from the known brands.

Thats odd, I know the potenza's are some what loud. But overall, my 8 is very quite with little or no cabin noise. When Im traveling down the hwy at 70-80, its pretty quiet. Two people in the front seats can converse with normal voices.

Our roads here are quite course, even the highways. I suppose its their way of preventing accidents. Well Ive just come back from a spirited drive and the grip is not as good as the Potenzas, however it is more than satisfactory for me. I still cant believe how smooth the ride has become! I guess I have no need for my Mitsubishi Diamante any more

I had Korean tires (Kumho) on my last car. They were nowhere in the same league as a Yokohama, much less the big dogs from Michelin or Bridgestone.
For a daily shitbox that just runs local duty, maybe.
For a 150 MPH sportscar? No way.

They are expensive indeed. I can't imagine *anyone* intentionally buying replacement Dunlop 8090s given the other better (and cheaper) tires out there. I haven't heard of Nexen, but I would have no hesitation buying Korean Kumhos or Hankooks (the high-performance models of those brands, at least) for my replacement set.
